A Florida 5-year-old was reportedly told by a lunchroom employee at her school that praying before eating was a no-no - and now her irate father has opted to take her out of school lest she be deprived of her religious freedom. CBS reports that her father, Marcos Perez, has summoned the legal prowess of the conservative Liberty Institute to demand the school change its ways:
The Liberty Institute sent a letter to the school administrators demanding they stop allowing religious discrimination, which is in violation of not only state, but federal law. The school denies the incident.
Jeremy Dys of the Liberty Institute...wants the school to be held responsible for the oppressive actions of the cafeteria monitor and protect this from possibly happening to other children.
"I was at school, and I got my lunch, and I was about to pray and say something to Jesus," says Perez's daughter in the video below (with ample instruction from mom and dad). "My lunch teacher told me...'you're not allowed to pray.'"
