Ha Ha on all you slobs, I have a flip phone! With texting and voice mail. When are you guys gonna catch up with technology for chrizzakes?

    !
LOL. I have a $14.88 Samsung cheapie 'burner phone' Star-Trek flip phone from Walmart. Texting, but I've rarely used it that way. I haven't set up voice mail, because I rarely use the cell phone. It's for emergencies now that I'm getting to be an old geezer, lol. I love the $1.99 on the day you use it, but totally unlimited minutes, or other calls you make the rest of the day.$100. a year often finds me carrying over balances into the next year. Can't beat that! I look at the men and women with TRULY important jobs in the USA and don't see any of them glued to their cell phones, so who am I to put on airs with a phone attached to my ear? lol

@GedankPol • Me too. I have a deal with Verizon for the family and they all have smart phones but all I use is the standard,'mark one, mod. zero' phone. I think it's funny when the wife and kids drive all the way back home from a place just because they forgot their phone. My how times have changed!

Hey, I like flip phone and have one in my purse now. Nothing like slamming it shut to give one an emotional lift. Answering is as easy as hauling it out of my purse and sticking a thumb nail in the right spot and flipping it open. Not to mention no accidental dialing when something starts bumping the screen. In addition, I have even holstered in in my cleavage.

For everything else I have a tablet with a far larger screen. Android since I can not only have the tablet but the tablet can talk to the phone and use it as an Internet connection (Bluetooth).

@PolitixMary: "New York City is now notorious for its income inequality, which is vividly illustrated by this map of Android vs. iPhone users. "

$67,000 is the median income in Manhattan? That's not much considering the VERY HIGH cost of living in Manhattan! It's all about location, location, location! I'm sure the $45k in Brooklyn goes much farther than the $67k in Manhattan.
  • #24
    !
The average income in Manhattan is a bit misleading. If you look at only lower and midtown Manhattan and do away with Harlem and the northern part of the island, the median income would be very high. It's being weighted down by housing developments north of the areas that most people look at as manhattan.

    !
Just one more example of the left's mission to rile up the masses with this income inequality BS. Who gives a flying flip? Not anyone other than a bleeding heart, crying, liberal, socialist, Barry loving _______. Fill in the blank yourselves.
  • #47
    !
I would wager that this isn't much at all about income but you did hit on a point. location location location. but maybe not for the reasons some assume. How many corporate users are in jersey vs manhattan, how many are in the bay area vs Oakland, downtown chi vs south side....
Most corporations do not allow android on their exchange network because of its security flaws but they do allow iPhone as its more locked down ( that's a simplification but essentially that's what it is ). So you are going to find more iphones.
To me these maps clearly demonstrate iPhone use in corporate areas and very little of anything at all more than that.

All phones can be spied on... If your phone doesn't have GPS it can be triangulated if you're within service range. If you're not within service, why do you use a cell phone?... Bottom line, we're all being spied on one way or another no matter what phone you use, the government is an ass hole.

Hahaha...I'm a semi retired millionaire and I like my Android better than my wife's i-phone...the screen is bigger and I cans still do what I need on it...oops shit!
  • #3
    !
Do you know why the screen is bigger? It's because their OS is a battery hog and eats up battery life quicker than iOS, hence the need for a large battery.

Hey, I have a charger! I need it for my eyes...and I don't use it for internet access...heck I have 2 laptops and a desktop with a gaming mother board for that.

@BravoJuliet My wife isn't very tech savvy. She had an Android phone that was too complicated for her. She likes her iPhone because it operates exactly like her iPad. That's what I like about Apple...consistency across all their platforms.

I have a Kindle Fire. Other than using it for books, it's useless. The web browser is crap and most apps are glitchy at best. The iPad is just the opposite.
  • #16
    !
@methinks The kindle fire isn't a true android. Amazon craps it up with their own software, as do most makers of android gadgets. I'd take a Nexus 7 with a good all around OS and the kindle app.

Or people with android manage money better. Most of the apps are free and you can download music from outside sources, because who wants to pay $1.99 for a music file?

After reading all the other comments, I like yours best. It's logical. I HATE the iphone! My Android is the best. And, I will admit, I am hooked on technology. Can't go anywhere without some sort of connection, some device. I feel naked, alone, stranded, helpless, disconnected. Hello, my name is______ and I am a techoholic....

Hahaha...and I still remember back in the day when every corner in town had a pay phone...of course that was before the internet too...damned, I'm competing with dirt now in age...LOL!
  • #37

@BravoJuliet Dirt! Dirt? I too remember the pay phone. Disgustingly dirty, always broken, phonebook missing. Seems like a lifetime ago.

Yea, and then I remember the first Motorola™ mobile phone my Dad had...it was about the same time Manix and Rockford Files were popular TV shows.

It was in a freaking suit case...LOL!

Does it matter which phone people choose? Maybe people who don't make as much are more concerned with getting a good device for their money than with "image." I'd bet the same maps would show the exact same thing for a lot of consumer goods, Rolex vs. Casio for instance.

There is another explanation for this. Rich people don't have the time to learn about high tech devices. They are busy coming up with ways to screw those of lower economic status. They need something with one button. That's all they can deal with.
  • #95
    !
and THAT is the REAL REASON behind why people use i-phone and apple products,
    YOU NAILED IT !!!
ONE BUTTON, I LOVE IT! I'm flipping a bird to all the i-phone's

The map was spot on in my city. My husband got an android and hates it! He's going back to iPhone like me and my daughter use. He had an iPhone before this phone.

My I/Android phone has to be "flipped" open when I answer. <aka a dumb phone>
If I wanted to have my phone run my life, I'd have a ringer inserted up my a$$. Needless to say, no ringer up there (that I know of).
AND, I really love how people can't even go take a dump without their smart phone. I rarely take (or conveniently forget) my phone when I go out. Heck, I broke down in the middle of the Mojave Desert at midnight 30+ miles from any lighted place....and it was my generator (no lights). I lived to tell the story.

Driving a cab, I see plenty of low income folks with iPhones. You can re-negotiate your plan with any major carrier and get an iPhone for $200 or less.
Personally, I haven't seen any superiority for recent iPhones over the Android.
I used my last phone, a HTC Eco 3D for 3 years and gave it to my friend who is still using it. Now I have a "phablet," another HTC, eliminating the need to have a phone AND a tablet. As a status symbol, iPhone is passe'.

I'm indifferent 'cause I don't live on my cellphone and rarely use apps. Cellphone overuse, indiscipline and addiction are big ingredients in the degradation of behavior in public. That's what the fourth horseman of the Apocalypse was carrying, a goddamn cellphone.

What is not being taken into consideration is that Apple phones are all very expensive. Android phones come at all price points. The comparison is like comparing Bentley's to the GM line except that the Iphone is no where near a Bentley in that comparison.

Q: How can you tell which one of your friends has the new gold iPhone 5s?
    A: Don't worry, they'll let you know.

Q: Why is it so sad that Steve Jobs died?
A: Everyone at Apple are crying their i's out.

you got that right, I was down in cupertieno ca. when he died and was driving past the apple store, you should have seen the shrine and all the people bawling like little babies out in front of the store, man it was pathetic.

Or you can just do what I did and get yours off Ebay because someone else was upgrading theirs. Straight talk, awful customer service aside (at least they don't make their Indian tech support use American names) really is a great service as far as value and coverage area. Plus, i can still have a mobile phone for emergencies and just use internet over wifi.

Yep, the North end of my town (where all the doctors and lawyers live and work) is awash in iPhones; everywhere else is Android.

Frankly, I prefer the Android OS for its stability and decent speed at a good price.

@silentrunning No, I mainly just wanted to move my extensive 80's cassette collection onto my phone without having to re-buy every single album again from iTunes...

Speaking of which I think it's interesting how people can bend companies to their will on completely irrelavant grounds like a CEO who made a political contribution 6 years based on his personal views but are willing to continually let companies like this ram them from behind without any lube by way of high costs, poor service, and trapping service contracts.

All it shows is that androids are a better value and frugal people take advantage of a good deal. I like my iPhone and I sure as hell ain't rich! Most well off people here prefer the Samsung galaxy 4.
