    Yes, it is. And the only people keeping the ideals of classical liberalism alive today are Libertarians, the Democrats abandoned them for progressiveism.

    @galt45 I disagree, I think Libertarianism plays off of classic liberalism but it is not very well thought out, and full of huge flaws. I used to be a libertarian when I was 18 or 19 as I progressed in my education and learned more I grew out of it.

    In my opinion it is the bulk of the Democratic party (not all of them) that keep the ideals of classic liberalism alive.

    Nonsense.....To be Libertarian is to be for smaller government in all ways.....including many that Republicans hate. True Libertarians think all drugs should be legal and the government should get out of making rules about abortion for example.......hardly the "soul of conservatism", but typical to pick the parts you like and ignore the rest.

    You're quoting a guy that grew govt faster than anyone since FDR, created HUGE deficits and debt, granted amnesty, and exploded military interventionism. He doesn't even understand his the politics and policies he's espousing.

    We won't mention the 225 Reagan appointee indictments, a world record, or the subsequent 138 convictions for same, also a record, or all the Pol Pot deaths, which history has already lain at the Gipper's feet, or Iran Contra, and Reagan's criminal escape from impeachment for those felonies..........or the creation of the "Tinkle-Down" pseudo-economic theory that was highly questionable IN 1980, and hilariously laughable and totally fraudulent now as all economists have discarded it........not enough space to describe Reagan's desruction of America, and his push over the fiscal cliff and policy changes that precipitated America's 35-year slide into the two-class system and obscene wealth gap we ended up with..........but he was an OK B-Movie actor......Reagan was agreat communicator.....I have his movie "Desparate Journey", which spawned the later T.V. series Hogan's Heroes, and was probably Reagan's best movie outside of "King's Row" .

    Take a quick look at the doublespeak being administered by Reagan to aNazi Commandant in this clip, that starts around 1:30........

    I subscribe to the philosophy that the reason for my existence is my own personal happiness. Santorum is one of those people that think that your life should be dedicated in service to others. Actually, religion and collectivist political thought are remarkably similar in that regard. Who tells you that your life belongs to you? Nobody!

    Happiness is the freedom to do as you like so long as you do not harm others. What's wrong with the pursuit of happiness? Nothing!

    Sorry Rick, but I'm all for the pursuit of happiness and the leave-me-alone ethos. And, I don't need the government's help or intrusion for either of them.

    I think Santorum's boat has a few leaks, but he handled tough questions very well. Why don't all political reporters ask tough questions like the libertarian reporters do?

    I agree Santorum does shoot straight and you can ask him any question and he will tell you what he thinks ...he stands behind what he says and doesn't go into damage control for extreme views...If he wasn't so hung up on the christian (I want to save your souls) mode wanting to be the moral police...He would be a decent politician..But alas he belongs to the flat earth society and they cant stand being in charge and not telling people what to do in their bedroom or personal life..To be christian is to love but they are intent on hating those who do not fit in their mold

    Libertarianism is the core of the Constitution and the American way.
    Libertarians:" Quietly plotting to take over the world and leaving you alone."
    Both parties hate us because we are out to push the government back into it's Constitutional limits. That and we believe in pains in the butt like independence, freedom, liberty, etc.

    Santorum will never win the GOP primary and he will never be president. While he may have a small amount of support form the Social conservatives keep this in mind the GOP cannot win the white house without Libertarian support and if they run a lame stream candidate they'll lose that support.

    @Unfit2serve And that is the problem with the two party system. Too many of us buy into the "wasted vote" lie if you vote for a third party. Any time you vote for someone that you don't believe in, you wasted your vote.

    Well if you want a repeat of the results of 2012 by all means keep ignoring the Libertarian wing. I really hope people keep the definition of insanity in mind when going to the polls on election day because if not guess what we're going to get what we've been getting and that is insane.

    Dain, Feel free to cite exactly where in the video Santorum said, "Libertarians Are Too Interested in 'Happiness'" or something even close. It's not there. When a person deliberately misrepresents the position of another, it's indicative of a resentful person who has nothing better to do than attack under false pretenses. It's small minded and immature. It's sad how some Politix contributors find it so difficult to be honest.

    The "I don't want America to be happy" rhetoric is very dangerous. Isn't that what cult leaders say right before they order their flock to commit mass suicide? That's also what Hitler said about German Jews right before the holocaust. Hitler considered himself a good God fearing catholic conservative and then went insane and started killing everyone who wasn't catholic. Pssst Santorum.... You do not belong to a master race.

    I hate Santorum more than I have ever hated anyone I've never met. He is a prime example of someone who doesn't comprehend the seperatiom of church and state and that is dangerous to have in any political position.
