The two Jewish American groups were protesting Israel military action in Gaza. Similar protests have drawn hundreds or thousands around the world.
The protestors read aloud the names of the more than 650 Palestinians who have been killed since Israel's attack started 17 days ago.
"We said we wanted to discuss donations, which was correct," protestor Felice Gelman told Tablet magazine. "They said, 'Wow, all these people, fantastic,' and opened the door." Protestors then announced, "we are here to demand that you end your support of the IDF and stop your contributions to the war in Gaza."
The Friends of the Israel Defense Forces apparently called the police immediately.
Rebecca Vilkomerson, executive director of Jewish Voice for Peace, explained the protestors' motives:
We feel like it's really important, especially as Jews, to make the statement that this is not in our name and that the Jewish community is not behind this assault in the United States and that they need to stop doing this immediately.
