I swore off FB a few years ago when Zuckerberg started "personalizing" ads with users' IDs. An example is when a scripture supply store "liked" a drug store. When that drug store ran a special on Trojan condoms and lubricants, the FB ad proudly announced that "Joe's Bible Store Likes Trojan Condoms".

Using FaceBook is career suicide........and personalizing any web application just dooms you to an endless downpour of promotions "aimed" at your buying habits. The worst thing about personalizing ANYTHING is that you are immediately cut off from the actual world...you just get news items and partisan political speech that the world knows you want to hear, while completely cutting you out of events and news items that might "upset" your worldview. Personalization should be renamed to OSTRICHIFICATION.

@dances-weebles oh, and many companies are using a f.b. page to advertise rather than filing for a domain and having a web site built for them.

Mine got hacked years ago, and I've never used it since. Quite frankly, all Facebook is, is an electronic version of the Junior High gossip groups. I love how people going back as far as my High School, who never had anything to do with me, all of the sudden feel the need to have me friend them, and share every detail of their lives.

As for this 911 call. I'm not surprised. We're 'dumbing' down, and the Facebook users prove that everyday.

Well that depends on one's emotional attachment to Facebook. Either way such misguided acts should be of great concern for their unwarranted attacks on the emergency system that so many depend on.

    Depends on the spiders...

Come to think of it, if I was a criminal, I would love to break into people's houses and plant explosive devices inside of their pickle jars and bugs on their phones, just so I could listen to the ensuing conversation where the poor fellow has to convince the police that he needs the bomb squad to disarm his pickle jar.

@BravoJuliet - Yeah, I had the exact same problems last night too. I started to call 911. I need Politix in my life. Where else can I lecture liberals at?

What was Politix doing, changing their hosting company or something? For a minute I thought they forgot to pay the bills.

At first I thought the Obama Administration had hacked them to death or something...then I remembered Healthcare.gov and realized they're not savvy enough and went with your thought.

Funny thing is... living in LA... I know the exact over-privileged idiots who would have done that. I can picture them talking about yoga, traffic, and doing MDMA at the Avalon Ballroom in my head right now. Fining those idiots won't do anything, their parents already buy them Audi's and BMW's for being useless deadbeats, they'll pay a fine in a heartbeat. I say issue a warrant, and let em spend the night at Two Towers Jail downtown. That place is pretty 3rd world.

Nah, it was the same idiots who called 911 when they couldn't get the taco they wanted at Taco Bell....from the Drive-Up line.

Wow, some people are really freaking stupid...that's way crazy!

Heck I'm still having trouble today reaching all the links on Politix and get redirected to a place called Dotster.com but I don't think I'll be calling law enforcement for a technical issue...

Me too, but it was fine this morning. I think the site blocked some of our IP addresses. Because when I used an IP anonymizer,I could get on just find. Maybe it wasn't an accident....

@Ironicguy I guess maybe there is more than one server for the site but you guys know more about that than me. I don't think it was an accident.

    Lmao!!!!!
I lost politix about 9:30 last night. Didn't get it back until 3pm today. It sent me into another dimension. I vacuumed and mopped the whole house. Cleaned the tub and toilet and lavatory. Cleaned the stovetop and the oven. Wiped all the walls and baseboards clean. Disinfected the sink with bleach. No OCD. Just a single man getting female company tonight. Lol!

Quite frankly, its the first time I ever saw politix exempted from so many people on a nationwide basis. I guess a server was down but even Topix sites in remote areas were inaccessible. Geez, it would be great to know why we were excluded.

My dad would love you. He's 82. He worked 43 years for 13 hours a day.
That's over four lifetimes of work. He had only two vacations in his whole life.

A fine isn't enough. People who abuse 911 like this should spend a month in jail, on top of the fine. Wasting a 911 operator's time with a petty issue makes that operator unavailable to someone else who may be in a life or death situation.

Then they should be confined because they are a danger to everyone if they are this stupid, but then again it is California.

Not surpising in an America that sends Neilsen Ratings souring over "Sharknado 2."
I don't know WHAT the SciFi channel movies should be called...but they ain't quality science fiction. More like a soft landing channel for failed T.V. actors and D-List celebrities.

Addicted to Facebook, then you need to seek real help! There is more to life than retarded Facebook! How about a job, studies, or a hobbie? Hello tards! 911 is emergencies! Facebook is not life or death! Get a frigging clue! If you are that dumb, please visit Iran or Iraq and say you are visiting from the United States! Sure we will never hear from you again;-)

I have limited myself from using FB. I find it rather irritating seeing pics of people's kids over and over. Seeing pics of food, Grandstanders, complainers, and whiners, yada yada. It's worse than here!!! LOL ( Without pics).. and the worst is , "G'Night Facebook ". Ugh! That said, yes they should be fined for taking time from people who have serious problems to deal with. Are Millenials THAT stupid? That is scary!

For perhaps the first time, I'm in 100% agreement with you, Mimi. Take away a 20-something's cell phone or Web access, and they are uncomfortable and awkward facing the prospect of actually talking face-to-face with other human beings. The worst of the worst are the people who try and carry on a conversation with you, while simultaneously texting or flipping throuh web pages on their device..........I'm waiting for the first cable TV or regular movie that shows a sex scene with one (or both) people frantically poking at the screen while humping up and down.....we'll know the "Apocolypse" has finally arrived, at that point. It will probably hit the theatres right around the time we discover that some foreign country, our one of our own CIA Black Sites has successfully cloned a human being.

what i find irritating ab out facebook is that people, like my sister, use it to send out their 'one liner' communications to everybody all at once, rather than actually taking the time to think about friends and family to sit down and actually send individual e-mails or write 'letters' *gasp*

@Unfit2serve 20 somethings? hell no. 8 out of 10 people you see now days have something plugged into their heads... and if anyone has to wait anywhere, rather than keeping their kids company, they plug their 4 year olds into their i-pad and ignore them. nice, huh?

have you ever seen a group of teens sitting around the table at the food court in your local mall 'texting' each other, rather than talking?

    @dances-weebles

I've seen young couples who look like they're on a date sitting at a restaurant table using their electronic gadgets.

Who knows? Maybe they're texting each other.

I miss the days of bulletin boards, relevant and educational interconnections and the utter lack of ads. Some of us dreamed of a more useful internet that was not commercialized-and the trust in factual and relevant material has been lost amid frivolous and agenda set posting. Social media is cool, do not get me wrong-but it has become another addiction for some, and the overload on advertising; targeted and tailored becomes oppressive and obstructive. I do not even buy stuff, but am bombarded all the same.
