The former White House chief of staff told reporters that President Obama "has no idea how the American system functions," and blamed this on his years spent "smoking something" in Hawaii. But also his time in Indonesia, and in Chicago as a community organizer, an activity Sununu refers to as a "socialized structure." Sununu added that Obama should "learn how to be an American." He later explained that he intended this comment in relation Obama's economic policy: "The president has to learn the American formula for creating business." This has all prompted Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith to charge Romney's side with "going off the deep end" and desperately trying to move attention away from questions about Bain Capital. "This meltdown and over-the-top rhetoric won't make things better," said Smith. "It only calls attention to how desperate they are to change the conversation."
