So do the students have to go to the police station to turn in the weapons. Is each dorm going to have a satellite police station within?
This sounds like a rule that will soon be acceptingly ignored.
On the other hand, I can understand the concern. While I am a legal concealed weapon carrier and am all about the 2d, there is a lot of drug use on campus: specifically alcohol. Guns and booze are a bad combination. Drinking and carrying is similar to drinking and driving: simply NOT a good idea. But I support the right of the students in ANY college to carry even while they sleep.

@Real4WheelDrv Yeah, exactly. But again, that happens with older adults, too. I think that's why, probably most states (certainly here in Oregon) require you take and pass an accredited class before issuing a permit. One hopes that people granted permits are also mature enough to carry. My observation has been, (or maybe I don't have all the facts), that most of the crimes committed with handguns are people who are NOT permit holders.

@Keyjo Agreed. Here in Michigan too. Although I wish conceal/carry laws would be a little more flexible for those like me who aren't comfortable with firearms. I'm blind in my right eye so I have zero depth perception, unless I'm aiming with a scope...ick. I realize practice would make up for that but I'd still be worried about my aim under stress. But if I was able to carry a blade in my sleeve etc. Although provisions like that would just cause more trouble.

@Real4WheelDrv All the practice in the world won't make up for the stress, or more over, adrenaline overload. Fortunately, most cases of self defense with a handgun for a civilian, are in close proximity. Generally within 20 feet or less. Most thieves and predators are looking for easy, defenseless targets. And the mere sight of you just reaching for your holstered weapon is enough to discourage them and send them packing.

That is the most stupid thing I have heard yet. Weren't most of the shootings done during the day. If this is the best we can do to stop the violence we are in more trouble than I thought.

Wow,'if this is the best we can do to stop the violence'- really? You think you can stop violence? The only way to ever stop violence is by controlling a person's emotions. I would hate to see a day of a society that regulates human emotions. The only thing we do is arm everyone so that people aren't easy targets to the mad men and women of society.

What kind of bull shit is that. Your allowed to go to class & everyhwere else with your weapon. But, before you go to bed you have to turn it into the cops. What a-hole made that rule up. Hell, at night that's when all the loonies are running around. I'll be damn if I would surrender my weapon to the cops before I go to my hooch & hit the sack. That's just as bad as tell a student that has asthma or a bee allegry that we're going to keep your EPI pen or your Inhaler at the police station when you go to bed. That way if you get bit or have a asthma attack, by the time the cops get here your be dead. Hell, who needs a a-hole running a campus like that throwing common sense right out the window. Well, hell there you go, that's the answer. I've been on this planet for 65 years, now. And, hopefully I last a lot longer. But, anyways I know for the fact. Plain common sense that every body is given goes out the window the more educated that you get!!

If someone is gonna go on a shooting rampage. They'd prolly 1) do it early, before anyone gets their guns. 2) keep it after midnight so no one has one.

Right 2starider,and they should be required to take training and be licensed to possess their"teddies". So the campus"bigwigs"are telling the"wanna be"killers,rapist.etc.,et c.,if you are going to do it on this campus, the hours are between 2200hrs. one day thru 0800hrs.the next day,and all these years I thought holders of those position(s)had to"smartly/brainy,innovat ive, etc.

If freedom loving students have to give up their guns at bed time then it's only fair that Liberals have to give up their Teddy Bears as well.

Yes some should be allowed to carry based on proven training and skill. The segregation is up to the univesity, but I would want my kid in the protected dorms, not the victim dorms

You got to admit there getting very creative with gun control. You can own them but will keep them for you and you have to stay over there away from us over here. Nice try. "The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Sounds infringed upon to me.

Honestly, this sounds stupid, but these shootings are to real to ignore escpecially if one can get guns so easy. Its a tough complex situation that I can't even comment on either. Hope it gets resolved though. To much Bullshit happening in the world and honestly, its getting more rediculous as the years go on.

Good. Segregate them, preferably far away and around the corner. Let them sleep with their guns like my nephew does, all cuddled up with his assault rifle.

I've been packing most of my adult life. Packing to me is very personal. When I leave my home it feels good to have (sweeper) with me that's her name. Sweeper is a 92 barretta 9mm 13 shot beautiful piece of black steel. As a marine i feel packing is ok. The key issue here is the training. The training is paramount no bullshit will apply.

It seems to me that the university should have the right to ban guns from their dormitories. If you want to have a gun, that's your right, you can live off campus. Last time I checked, subsidized dormitory housing isn't a Constitutional right.

seems like last time i checked the Constitution i couldn,t find any limitations were i could carry a weapon, government property should especially be subject to constitutional law, probably should check into the word (Infringed )when i get a moment

Subsidized means that the students don't have to pay the full cost of their housing, which is typical for dormitories. It seems to me if I'm paying for your housing, I should have some say as to what goes on in that house.
