Legalize marijuana and there will be less profits for anyone once everyone starts growing their own. It's a useless war police are fighting anyway.

Here are the reasons the government used to justify the prohibition in the past. Testifying to congress Harry J. Anslinger the first director of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics:
"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others.”
“…the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races.”
“Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death.”
“Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.”
“Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing”
“You smoke a joint and you’re likely to kill your brother.”
“Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.”
A few well placed lies can go along way it seems. And lets not mention why chemical and pharmaceutical company's or lumber industry wants it to stay illegal.

L.A. should ban the politicians who think they can control what others put into their own bodies. This is an issue of civil liberties. How free do you want to be? Do giant corporations sale cigarettes and alcohol in L.A.? Those kill 400,000 and 100,000 people in America every year, and pot kills 0. In a couple hundred years we're going to look back on this era like we look back on alcohol probation, unless giant corporations and their liberty hating politicians still run the place, and if that's true, humans will probably all be dead by then anyways.

Marijuana is the second most common substance found in all US car collisions besides alcohol.
It may not cause death directly, however, it can be contributed to many fatal car collisions. It is also a gateway drug for young users into hard drugs like cocaine or methamphetamine.

Also, prohibition is a horrible example to help marijuana to be legalized.

You statistics are totally not true in the terms of cannabis IMPAIRMENT causing the accident. As you know and everyone else knows cannabis stays in your system for up to a month. All your stats mean is someone consumed cannabis in the one month time frame before accident. All your stats prove is ALOT of people enjoy consuming cannabis. The biggest gateway drug by far is alcohol bar NONE. And no prohibition is not a horrible example to legalize. When the punishment far out weighs the consuming of cannabis THAT'S THE PROBLEM. No one dies, goes to jail or life is changed for worse unless they run into LEO

Those poor people, what will they do without their medicinal pot? Wait, its linked to crime? Those people in the crowd don't look sick? What's going on here?
  • #33
Not everyone has to consume cannabis to be for its usage. There can be many people with sick family or friends that they are speaking for. Also are you a doctor and can tell all the aliments of the people in the pic just by looking at them?

Pot is drug, Wal Mart or one of the larger Drug stores should have the exclusive right. Allowing smaller less educated employees not good idea. Bigger stores..
  • #9

Have you never seen the employees at wal-mart? ANY wal-mart. Youre talking about people who were not swift enough to get an equivalent job with decent hours, treatment, wages and benefits elsewhere. Youre literally talking about ignoring the bottom of the barrel, knocking it over and pulling off the mud underneath.

Now as for the article. Yeah, I call BS. If more crime has popped up around the shops, it comes from there being asinine restrictions on who can have the natural, useful and organic substance and who cannot. This is a case where the laws are what is creating crime.

So restrict the sale of weed to only Wal-Mart? I've not heard that argument before. You can only buy weed from big box stores in mass quantity! You'd have to get a Sams card/weed card. Now that might change some stoner's views on this small business destroying mega corporation....haha.

@Chomsky0 ~ So that's why all the Wal*Martians look like that?!
They're all high and they can't match their clothes , then the munchies have them packing on the pounds! Yeah, it all makes sense now..( smiling)...

@dances-weebles Are you kidding me? Pot is a DRUG. A drug is a substance that has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body. Pot affects your mind by getting you high. Therefore it IS a DRUG.

Pot is drug, ponder it.. Why do drug dealer sell it to the public?

Drug dealers... Connect it to why they sell it..

    It's drug...

Alcohol is drug, ponder it.. Why do stores sell it to the public? Drug dealers.... Connect it to why they sell it... It's drug.....

Alcohol is drug... I agree... Our society lost the battle with that drug.

Just ponder how many people and friends in your own world, has alcohol had negative effect on.

The negative effect of alcohol, broken families, divorce, drunk drivers, working for person who drinks a lot...

Now we about to ,make another mistake with pot?

@Sterling I have many family and friends affected and KILLED by booze! Thats why I WANT A SAFER CHOICE. Plain and simple. NO LD-50 on cannabis.
  • #157
@Sterling I don't use drugs, Sterling, but I prefer to make my own choices when it comes to these things. If all drugs were legalized today, I still wouldn't use them, but that is MY choice, not the government's. Why do we continue to support a government tries to control every aspect of our personal lives?

I used to live in L.A.
The crime rate increase is most likely caused by so many out of work due to the Great Bush Depression.

The increased crime is because recreational marijuana is still illegal.
Legalize it already and you won't have people getting medical cards and then selling to other people, they won't have to.
  • #10
Humph. L.A. You're taking candy from a baby. How could you?!? It's causing crime? NOoo! It for medicinal reasons! Not recreational!

Well. Goes to show you exactly how one can rescind something eh? A LOT of things can happen like this come January. Promises made. Promises taken back. A leopard does not change his spots.
