Apparently Anaheim has a history of these types of Group Identity Politics Name-game shenanigans...

This is from a Huff Po article about this...

"After failing to gain a seat on the Anaheim City Council in 1994, Loretta Brixey substituted Sanchez for her last name in a successful 1996 congressional campaign. More recently, former Capistrano School Board member Ken Maddox adopted his wife's surname, Lopez, to further his political ambitions."

Kind of like, "I don't want to be known as Barry Soetoro anymore. How about my real father's last name?'No' on Davis, as well? Okay then...let's just go with the birth certificate..."

Read the story, people. Chavez is the surname on his birth certificate. It's not as if he is pretending to be Latino when he's not. He is Latino. The fact that he chose to de-emphasize it in the past and emphasize it now may well be for political gain, but that's his prerogative. I'm willing to bet the woman filing this lawsuit has some other grudge against him.

I can't disagree with you Stratton. He is Latino and it's his prerogative. What's telling about this in Liberal California something as superficial as changing a name will win elections.

I have to laugh or I'd cry.

Boy, times have really changed. As a child I remember my dad, who came here from Italy, telling me how his grandfather dropped the vowels in his name so it would sound more American. Now...
they're faking names to sound more foreign?! What the heck. I
have to wonder if this Country will ever regain it's sanity or the U.S. will just become one huge Asylum...

Ok I am going to go out on a limb and guess this guy is a democrat. If he was a republican, it would have been in the headline, however since it didn't make the story at all proves tbe bias. you just can't make this crap up.
