But President Obama says that government "built that."

Personally, I disagree with both of you. I'm with Paul Ryan with his opinion on who's most responsible for "building that"...

"Behind every small business, there's a story worth knowing. All the corner shops in our towns and cities, the restaurants, cleaners, gyms, hair salons, hardware stores- these didn't come out of nowhere. A lot of heart goes into each one. And if small businesspeople say they made it on their own, all they are saying is that nobody else worked seven days a week in their place. Nobody showed up in their place to open the door at five in the morning. Nobody did their thinking, and worrying, and sweating for them. After all that work, and in a bad economy, it sure doesn't help to hear from their president that government gets the credit. What they deserve to hear is the truth: Yes, you did build that."

@anok-- A business is created when a private citizen has an idea and steps away from the security of a steady paycheck in order to try and make it happen. A business is built when a business owner is successful in making a profit and expanding.

A building is built when that business owner decides they need more room. They HIRE people to construct a building.

A business owner hires "workers" when they decide that they have too much work and not enough time.

You know who you remind me of?

@Bobolinsky They usually move into buildings that were already constructed. That is, if you're still talking about small businesses. At least you admit that its the workers that actually do the building. Also, why do you put workers into quotes?

You know who you remind me of? http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-m...

She worked hard, and built her business by scratch...I mean, inheritance.

Did they build the roads to the airport? Did they build the transmission towers and transformer facilities that bring the electricity? Did they build the water purification plant and the waste water disposal plant that the airport relies on? No, THE GOVERNMENT BUILT THAT!!! And THAT was Obama's point, NOT what Prince Preebus wants to spin it as.

Well I hit the wrong button, dammit.

    I disagree with your statement.

    The "government" builds nothing.

A few bureaucrats get together and make a plan and then they turn it over to men that have built their own companies to bring their plan to fruition.

Architects, Planners, Construction workers, Laborers, Masons, Concrete Truck Drivers, Asphalt layers, Pavers, Fence builders, Steel Workers, Delivery drivers and on and on.

THESE hardworking people that have built their own companies are relied upon BY the government to build whatever needs building.

    No, Normal...the government "builds" squat.

It's WE THE PEOPLE embodied by our Freedoms that create businesses and products that we SELL to the government so that the government can take credit.

Without WE THE PEOPLE, the government doesn't exist.

Without WE THE PEOPLE, the government gets nothing done.

That is why Obama is so very, very wrong in his statement.

@CanisCanemEdit , well by your logic, the "job creators" never build anything because all they do is pay other people to build it. Kind of like what the government does.
Oh, and in the America I live in, We the People ARE the government.

@NormalFlora - The government bureaucrats are the bottom end consumers.

They create nothing of tangible value.

They spend our money figuring out ways to acquire and spend more of our money.

Job creators for the most part have worked their way up the ranks and invest their own money to create tangible product.

You are absolutely correct! NormalFlora...and these people can't stand it, to know that ....Yes, Government does have a significant role to play in our economy.....It just kills them to admit that...LOL!

Is the sign in poor taste, or a reasonable political message?

Both. If Obama wasn't such a divisive figure in American politics, there wouldn't be such rancor towards him.

The sign is a reasoned and direct from the people message to our pesident.

Now, perhaps Debbie Whatshername Schultz can spin it to mean the exact opposite.

@steve-chicago Using the Internet to claim "Gov't creates nothing" wins today's Irony Award. Second place goes to the Sioux City residents whose airport is supported by government funds via the FAA.

Yes, its poor taste...and it also misquotes what the President said....But I can tell you, that in this case...They did NOT build that airport on their own...I can pretty much guarantee you that it was done with some kind of public money and/or assistance....Either at the state or federal level....So NO they did not "build this"...They had a lot of help!

By your logic, nobody built anything. The workers built the airport with the help of government paid roads. The government was built by the people and the constitution. The constitution were created by our founding fathers (Mainly James Madison). Our founding fathers (James Madison)created the constitution with the help of schooling. The teachers taught the kids through the help of schools. The schools were build by craftsmanship of the pilgrims. The pilgrims were able to build the school using trees and experience from the previous generation. The previous generation learned craftsmanship from the builders in England...etc. If I were to just stop here, that airport was built by England. But England was also built. So this idea of everyone pitching in will never cease.

@Ventric ---Well I doubt that "James Madison" laid even one brick to build the airport in question, sir..LOL...Please re-read what I have said, its fairly straight forward to most people..

The company that has that sign up is a high tech company. These type of jobs are not outsourced it is are the 'everyday people' jobs that are being outsourced. Economical eugenics is happening in this nation. People who are not gifted are systematically being pushed further and further onto the fringes or end up in jail trying to make a living doing illegal things.

I'm a small business owner and I do remember his words - of course I haven't simply memorized the way the words were spun and taken out of context - I remember the comment and it's 'meaning'.
