You must of saw a different video than the one I did. The one I saw showed a man giving much praise to the church and the family. Aren't these two institutions basically responsible for all the intellectuals in the world? obysmal is not going to save this country, he's going to be on the unemployment line in January, where he put 8.3% of the population.

@Neo_NtheMatrix So you're saying that in order for one to have any intelligence, they must not be orphaned and be extremely religious? I guess nobody told Albert Einstein, Alexander Hamilton, George Washington Carver, Steve Jobs, Noam Chomsky, Sigmund Freud, Carl Sagan, etc.

By the way, you have assumed that I'm an Obama supporter - correct?

@anok - If you're not with the obysmal wall street (ows) crowd then why would you so hatefully disparage a patriotic man like Santorum? As far as how you are trying to twist Santorum's words, what he is saying is that real intelligent people have strong Christian moral values and uphold the family. Those that try to destroy the institution of family can't be that smart no matter what they may invent, because they are trying to destroy the very thing that birthed them. Some of us are tired of liberal elitist trying to tell us what is best for us, as if they have a clue. They only end up ruining the very things that were already working.

I can't wait to pull the lever on Nov. 6th to send obysmal packing!

I know I've had it up to my neck with the "educated elitists". I have a few in my family with umpteen degrees, still going to school, have zero common sense and talk using eight letter words when
five would suffice...an uncle in Cal, who graduated from a pestigious school and works in maintenance, a sister-in-law I
cannot stand to be around because she's STILL blabbing about
her degrees...she sells wine now, I have to drink it just to be around her...my grandmama, called them educated idiots...get
your education, move along and fugettaboutit !!!

Love it, especially the part about your SIL! After some of the stuff that's come out of Georgetown U's professors and 31 year old students, I'm not sure how "smart" they are. Educated, maybe. I agree with your grandmama.

    @mimi57 hahaha!! Educated idiots!!!
Mimi that's just what my dad called them also!! And it's SO true!! A lot of them don't know to get out of the rain! LMBO!

Perhaps Santorum confuses intelligence with education, a common misconception. I know some very highly educated people who are dumb as posts, and many very intelligent folks who never had the opportunity to attend college, but take great effort, and joy, in reading and learning things for themselves, not just to get a higher paying job. How inane is Santorum, to alienate the very people who just may possibly have the best ideas for fixing some of our problems?
  • #56
    !
Exactly. Then again, maybe he wasn't really confusing the two and is actually questioning the intelligence of his own supporters.

How is remaining childless an act against nature? If you are unprepared or unwilling to be a responsible parent, it is indeed an "intelligent" choice.
The world is overpopulated, anyway. Why give Fascist-Capitalists another sacrificial lamb to slaughter!?

I agree with you, Keyjo, but the problem with that argument is that it is only the intelligent who seem to make that decision. The unintelligent, meanwhile, keep breeding like bunnies. The human gene pool needs intelligent people to reproduce.

Well duh.... No wonder the right seems so darn ignorant and their policies always are so black and white that they might as well admit they never actually learned about the issues at hand to begin with

I won't say the word "Smart", we Conservatives base our views on Logic and Liberals on Emotions, neither requires intellect

It would be cool to see a break down of the proportions of anti-intellectual conservatives vs intellectual liberals who created the science and technology required for Rick Santorum's video to be streamed via YouTube all over the world, and for us to chat about it on this site.

300win, really? You really believe that all conservatives are logical, and all liberals are emotional? And excuse me, but logic does indeed require some amount of intellect.

I really wish the Republican ticket could have been Santorum/Ryan. We'd be up by 10 points in the poll easily if that was the case. What I love most about Santorum and Ryan is that both of them are uncompromising conservatives. They believe what they believe and they speak the truth, no matter how upset it makes liberals. We need conservatives who are proud and who have backbones and who will not apologize for being conservative.

Mitt is alright. He'll get my vote because Ryan is on the ticket. However, next time around I hope the GOP listens to the Tea Party crowd and gets someone with passion, fire in the belly, and a true love of conservatism to be our standard bearer.

He wasn't my first choice either. They will, and are using his religion against him and I knew they would. I liked Christi and
    Rubio too.

I wish it was Santorum/Ryan too. But because they would have absolutely zero chance of winning. When Santorum started spouting his retarded extreme right religious lunacy he took himself out of the running.

Uncompromising means "not admitting of compromise or adjustment of differences; making no concessions; inaccessible to flexible bargaining; unyielding." That's the very problem with ultra right wing conservatives. This "my way or the highway" attitude is so counterproductive, it's why nothing gets done in congress. We have to realize that not everyone agrees, we will always have differences of opinion, and that difference doesn't necessarily make us evil, as you seem to believe. Folks with such extreme views as yours, who listen to the religious rhetoric of candidates like Santorum and Ryan and consider it to be the one and only Truth in spite of actual facts, are what I like to refer to as Stubbornly Stupid.

@Denizen_Kate - Call me stubborn all you want but some things you just don't compromise with. If someone wanted to harm your child, would you be willing to find middle ground with them? I'm sorry for getting personal, children should be left out of this. I hope your children live very happy and productive lives. But this administration is harming our children - by saddling them with debt, stealing their liberty, and putting the safety and security of this nation at risk. Should I compromise with that?

Again I say, some things you just can't compromise. On some issues you have to issue a steadfast "NO." So I will continue to vote for politicians who want to do right by my children and your children and all children of America. Our next generation does not deserve what obysmal wants to do to them.

Folks, I just have to say that I have met a LOT of really intelligent and very smart people in my lifetime, but I must say that if you have zero common sence all the booksmarts in the world is pretty much moot.

I wish the video would play. Another one I miss out on.:(

if you've figured out a way to get entitlements, that makes you smart!!! LOL

His comments were entirely misguided and so are those of the sources he quoted. Conservatives are some of the most intellectual and thinking people in politics. We are are NOT the ones mindlessly rioting down filthy streets, destroying public property, and corrupting society with gross displays of lewdness. We are Highly Educated and make Smart decisions and Choices in our everyday situations.

The Democrat Socialist party IS the Party of the Slave-Owner and today they want to keep Blacks and now Hispanics is modern-day plantations of Government dependence. Away with lies and Liberal propaganda!

maybe he was talking of those who think they are so smart they know what is best for us.like telling folks what to feed their kids or how big a soda cup can be. even though some of those he could have been talking about got to where they did off handouts from others, not being able to make anything in life on their own.

"Intelligence doesn't allow us to do better (?) what we are designed by evolution to do," said Kanazawa. Sounds like Darwinism for dummies. And Santorum hasn't finished evolving yet.
  • #46

Kanazawa is a bit of a crackpot -- a very intelligent crackpot, but wacky just the same. According to wikipedia "his current employer, the London School of Economics, has prohibited him from publishing in non-peer-reviewed outlets for 12 months."

In the last presidential election, breaking voters down by income category, the category that supported Obama over McCain by the largest margin was composed of those who earned less than $15,000. The group supporting Obama by the second-largest margin was made up of persons earning between $15,000 and $30,000, and the third-largest margin was among those earning $30,000 and $50,000. Margins in all the remaining groups were much smaller, favoring McCain slightly in some cases and Obama in others. See:

    http://www.historycentral.com/elections/12008...

Obama achieved majorities of voters at all levels of educational attainment. However, broken down by level, the group that supported Obama over McCain by the greatest margin was composed of persons who had not completed high school; 63% went for Obama. Obama's margins among high-school graduates (52%), those with some college (51%), and college graduates (50%) were slender. However, 48% of those with post-graduate education supported him. See:

    http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/poll...

Income and education are not perfect proxies for native intelligence, but they are reasonably well correlated with it. As often as they are suggested, the propositions that conservatism is incompatible with intelligence, or that Republicans are "the stupid party," are not in harmony with the data. The data show that the greatest support for the left wing and the Democrats exists among the poorest and least educated elements. Support for conservatism and the Republicans rises with income and educational level until the post-graduate level.

It is true that the intelligentsia support Democrats, but that is perhaps because so many of them are beneficiaries of it. However, not all "smart people" are part of the intelligentsia, nor are all of the intelligenstia necessarily smart. The herd mentality is as present in academia, journalism, the legal profession, and other word-manipulating lines of work as it is anywhere else; it may be even more so. How much easier is it for a moderately bright person who has a way with words to get ahead in these establishments by parroting conventional wisdom, than it would be by expressing original and perhaps heterodox thoughts?

It's worth remembering that from their foundation in the middle ages well into the eighteenth or nineteenth centuries, the universities were part of the ecclesiastical establishment. The "best and brightest" in seventeenth-century Italy were churchmen, and their religious doctrine was to them what "political correctness" is to today's chattering classes. Cardinal Bellarmine and the other inquisitors who condemned Galileo were among the smartest and best-educated people of their day. Their spirit is akin to that found today on the faculties of our great universities, in the "mainstream" or "legacy" news media, and in the government bureaucracy. And, like their intellectual forbears, their inclination is to crush any dissentient voice. Eppur si muove.
