Rep Joe "Not the Cool One" Walsh should probably try for a seat on the Science & Technology Committee with Todd Akin. They seem to have very similar science backgrounds.

That reference might be lost on the younger generations. Everytime I see his name, I always question myself for a moment: "Wait.. Joe Walsh?"

@David944 What's "Claire McCaskills's husband have to do with a couple of republican neanderthals and their misconceptions of women?

@Sonny In one corner you have a guy that feels so strongly against baby killing he just can’t give an inch and on the other hand you have a crook giving her husband access to policy makers to make money. Take your pick.

Answer to Question #1: Because women elect medical abortions over alternative methods, which most would find horrific.
Answer to Question #2: The life of both the woman and the unborn (at least not understood in the mind of a certain GOP congressman).

tell me, do you actually believe that any woman wakes up in the morning and says,'gee... i think i'll have an abortion today'?

women have abortions because they are necessary in their life, and that doesn't only include medical reasons.

    nobody is 'pro-abortion'.
  • #44
    !
@hwyangel they are also nobody's business but the woman who needs one and her doctor. there are other reasons for needing an abortion than 'medical'.

Of course not. They get pregnant because they chose to conceive. Either that or we are wasting millions of dollars on sex education that doesn't have the ability to communicate some very basic information.

Technically he is more than likely right. In doing a bit of research before I post I come across some things that make it make sense. First, most pregnancy related deaths occur from hemmorage or infections after the birth, both unforeseen problems and would not be cause for concern during the pregnancy. Secondly, these are in areas of high poverty, poor prenatal care or non-English speaking women. Not the highest catagories of women looking for an abortion in the first place. Now about the etopic pregnancy thing, these have never been looked upon as abortions but failed pregnancies that need medical intervention. With good prenatal care and good delivery and aftercare I can see where he is coming from. So maybe the problem needs to be how do we get better care for the subset of women to actually are having these problems during and after delivery.

What a thoughtful response. You looked beyong the rhetoric. Kudos and I agree,,good prenatal care and even support in lots of way for the women in that group would be great.

I don't see why everybody these days seems to think that it is okay to destroy the life of an innocent baby! May be if all of those liberal morons were the fetus, then they would understand that human life is something that should never be innocently taken. I hate the Democratic party so much!! All they are is a bunch of selfish liars. They wanna kill babies, and let murderers live! They care more about soulless whales then they do about human beings!! What kind of a country is this where we kill the innocent, reward murderers, and worship nature. We are the weakest, most dominatable group of people in the world! The media has these liberals all brainwashed! They talk about the Rebubs going way to far to the right? Think about how far left the Dems have gone since only ten years ago! This country is coming to an end unless we can destroy the media! They are a lib biased organization that I despise! I want to cry when I think of what has happened to this beutiful country!!

I don't see why everybody these days seems to think that it's okay to destroy the life of an innocent woman. For all the ranting you are doing about how human life is something that should never be innocently taken, you seem to forget that the woman is a human life as well. Democrats want to kill babies as much as Republicans want to kill women. No amount of back peddling on your part can take away the idiocy being spewed by the Republicans today, or any other day.
  • #110
    !
@jamayla They chose to have sex, they chose not to use protection, and now a baby has to suffer because of it? You act like the woman is an innocent life when she is the one that had sex in the first place! She knew what was coming, so she is definatly not innocent! And btw, if anything your party wants to kill women! Remember Ted Kennedy and his little "accident"? So stop trying to pin it on Republicans saying that they want to kill women!! I am so sick of all the lying liberals on here!
  • #148
    !
@Romney2012 Men choose to have sex, men choose not to use protection. By your logic any woman who is pregnant is guilty..........of what? I will repeat it so perhaps you will understand. Democrats want to kill babies as much as Republicans want to kill women. I don't have to 'try' to pin anything on the Republicans. Every time they open their mouths they pin it right on themselves. And just a quick FYI, I'm not a liberal.
  • #150
    !
@jamayla So the men are the ones to blame? I thought this was the 21st century, where women are independant and able to make their own decisions. Give it a rest, women are the ones to blame! Men don't have to really care because they aren't the ones who have to go through labor! If a woman is dumb enough to listen to a man and not use protection, then that is their own fault! Men can demand whatever they want from women, it is the woman's choice weather or not to obey, and if they aren't married, then the woman should never obey! Oh ya, and tell me how Republicans are trying to kill women! Tell me the hidden evils that leark in their minds that make them want tons of women to die! Plus, if you like abortion, then that makes you a liberal! A centrist would feel that both conservatives and liberals have a point in the matter, so don't try to hide your far left views behind centrism!!!

@Romney2012 I find it interesting that you use so many exclamation points (10 in your reply above.) You must be a real joy to be around. Frankly, no amount of flopping around on your part is going to convince me that anything you have to say holds any merit. The anger and hostility you harbor for women in general screams volumes. Your absolution of men screams volumes. In addition, the fact that you use the phrase "Men can demand whatever they want from women, it is the woman's choice (sic) weather or not to obey" is very telling.(By the way, weather is the term for things like rain, snow, wind, etc.) If, in your confused mind, I "like" abortion and your deduction makes me a liberal, then there is little hope for you as you will never see the forest for the trees. You are what you are.

Forget about a war on women, it appears that the GOP is mounting an all out war against reality and fact. I could understand if someone merely misspoke, but so many of their ranks are making such similar comments that it makes it somewhat difficult to deny a higher level of coordination coming from party. Particularly when they just plain get the facts wrong, it isn't just sad, it's absolutely embarrassing.

We sure have a lot of intelligent Republicans this election, I tell ya what. I wish I could manipulate basic science like that to get what I want. I cannot see how any woman could possibly back the republican party. Oh, this just in: blow jobs cure sorethroats.

Mary, while I think this guy is a bonehead of the first order, and a complete maniacal tool that loves the sound of his own voice, I have to comment on the latter portion of the article.
An ectopic pregnancy is where an egg is fertilized, but hasn't moved down to the womb and is trapped in the fallopian tube. An abortion isn't going to cure this.:)
They do Laparoscopic procedures in most cases, and in extreme cases open the abdomen.
  • #29

While your explanation of extopic pregnancy is accurate it doesn't fly with the folks who believe emergency contraception (or even just plain old birth control pills) are equivalent to abortion. The Personhood crowd is gaining some currency among the fundigelicals so I won't be surprised if the type of scientific illiteracy we're seeing here becomes more common.

Incumbents generally have an advantage when it comes to reelection. More money for advertisements is one, normally an incumbent will outspend the challenger. Name recognition, experience, more connections, lack of voter knowledge. The list goes on.

The article itself says that it happens but they are polling us asking if we think it's ever a reason.

There is very clear evidence that sometimes it IS a reason. That's FACT not opinion.

The question I was responding to was:
"Do you agree with Walsh that "the life of the mother" is not a reason for abortion?"
If it is ever a reason even once then the answer to that question is NO.
  • #180
    !
@CommonSense No, but it is very very very rare. I am in the medical field. I worked in surgery when R. V. Wade happened. I am well versed in the truth and realities of abortion, and medicine. In later years I saw one situation in which I would say that an abortion may have given a women a better chance. But the abortion was done in the early stages. The women had lymphatic leukemia. But it also was doubtful that she would come to term anyway. This was difficult on the women. I am not uncaring. I have compassion for the women. I showed a lot of it to her as my patient.

NEVER is it necessary to decapitate and dismember a child to save his/her mother's life. You just induce labor or do a c-section and let them BOTH live! The PRO-ABORTS just use this excuse (saving the mother) so they can keep this form of contract-killing legal.

I don't know . this whole issue and the way it's presented is stupid. I'm a man and have no idea what goes through a woman's mind when this comes up. I can say I'm against it but not having to ever deal with it on a life or death issue for myself or the child makes the question irrelevant to me. this congressman is wrong.

The story is slanted. Dang well slanted. Ectopic pregnancies are always terminated. (by rupture or chances of rupture) Women don't often know they are ectopic untill the rupture. No dang doc. leaves a preruptured ectopic pregancy in the tube. How lying can they get. Also,,,yes women die of complications of pregnancy,,,but the stat used does not say if had a women terminated the pregnancy the life would have been saved. In cases of life,,docs try to save both lives. Complications in early pregnancy that are life threatening are rare. So an abortion that would be done,,after the first trimester has equal the risk.

These Political leaders should go sit with families that have had to make a choice when they truely are torn apart when emergency situations happen. I have witnessed the agony that parents have gone thru to make choices, including fathers that have had to make choices for the family when their wives are not able to make such choice due to her health condition at the moment. These Politicans need to sit down with fathers that have raised their child alone, because the Mother gave her own life for the baby.

My preference is that women should decide those issues that only effect them.....kinda like it is now. This congressman and a majority of others that would like to change that have no skin in this game. There are many reasons to end an unwanted pregnancy, including age, genetics and where the health of the mother is at stake.
But then, if you believe the Earth is only 5,000 years old..........

I was just trying to point out that an idiot is an idiot no matter what party they subscribe to. Liberals hate on republicans like they actually have made the country better when the smell of the shit has simply changed. The democratic party and the republican party are completely out of touch with most Americans and full of retards. It seems I only hear common sense from outside the mainstream but then of course they don't stand a chance of actually getting elected.

Is there any wonder that America's infant mortality rate is a scandal compared to other industrial countries?
