picture kid with hands over ears about to be run over by a truck going - "La la la la..."

Love the attack on Dennys. One restarant owner said if you don't like the hike in costs get ready to eat at home.

The other side is if you currently work more than 30 hours for one restarant, prepare to get a second job.

Be interesting to see which restarants are excused from the requirements (pay your protection money now).

    Gasoline in Hell.

The US Post Office is passing the additional costs of Obamacare onto the postal employees. It will come out of their paychecks. It's more than anti business.

@FFX_VA Just had my yearly meeting and was told our insurance premium, co-pay, and deductible are all going up. The good news was we are getting a raise. A whopping 2% that will dissapear if the Bush tax cuts are taken away. Family insurance will now cost $460 a month but it includes dental. Dental ins that nobody will accept. I love OBAMA for what he has done for us.

@Elliotsreport - It's not the right that are wrong.

    World Net Daily:

The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness

"Modern liberalism's irrationality can only be understood as the product of psychopathology. So extravagant are the patterns of thinking, emoting, behaving and relating that characterize the liberal mind that its relentless protests and demands become understandable only as disorders of the psyche," declares author Lyle Rossiter. http://superstore.wnd.com/books/The-Liberal-M...

This is all part of my super secret liberal agenda plan. Have you noticed how when a liberal supports things that are good for you the righties double down on the bad? The first lady promotes nutrition - righties freak out. Boycott Chik-Fil-A, righties stuff their faces. Criticize Papa Johns - ditto. Boycoot Dennys - righties line up for a grandslam breakfast. Go after tobacco companies - righties light up. See the pattern. Now please join me in my campaign to put "President Obama says Warning -Don't Jump" signs on all of the tall bridges in your area.

doesn't matter if you support it or not that's the way it's going to go everywhere.

without reading any of the other responses I'll bet you everybody say "no I won't go to Denny's anymore"

well you won't be doing a lot of things anymore. this kind of stuff was foretold long ago when Nancy Pelosi was claiming we have to" pass to bill to see what's in the bill"

sane people or forecasting this exact reality that if you raise taxes or put penalties on business , that intern always goes down to the customer. anyone who didn't see this coming is an absolute moron

I read a story about the owner of Papa John's saying something similar. Newsflash this is the wealthiest nation in the world and there should be noone without decent healthcare, basic shelter (not a mansion, basic shelter) and food. These 1%'ers disgust me saying they will increase their prices because they want to continue to crush their low wage workers under their boots.

Well here is what an informed, intelligent public should do -- boycott! This jerk will be surprised that the new healthcare bill will be the least of his problems if people stop patronizing his establishments. Let's face it they probably would need less healthcare if they quit eating that artery clogging garbage anyway!

Denny's is raising prices and cutting costs to support Obamacare. This not new. Every time the cost of fuel goes up it cuts trucking jobs/wages and raises the cost of products you buy.
And your right. No one should be in poverty. And as long as Americans spend 4 billion on baby food, 4 billion on the homeless, and 14 billion on DOG FOOD, we cant exactly blame the rich when our own priorities leave much to be desired.
Running the rich out of the country by taxing them to death isn't the answer.

Actually since he is cutting hours down to part time he will not see costs increase because of Obamacare. It's a middle finger to his employees im his never ending pursuit of just one more dollar.

    @Cheenoguy

Fines to employers under the employer mandate also are imposed on workers who are not full-time employees, where a combination of employees working 120 hours per month (around 30 hours per week) count as one employee.
  • #100
    !
@hwyangel Denny's is not raising prices to support Obamacare! He is raising prices because of how much more he is going to have to pay for his full-time employees to have health insurance because of Obamacare! That is why a lot of businesses are making all of their employees part-timers! That will increase unemployment, people won't buy anything and we are in another recession! Thanks people for voting for the idiot!

There is the third option for the people. Stop going to those Denny's, Stop ordering Papa Johns. It's called free enterprise. If they lose business because of their trying to maintain their pre Obamacare level and can't then they have to take less profit. It's called Capitalism. I'm pretty conservative on most things, might even be called a gun nut and certainly a control the border nut, but I support socialized medicine. It works in Germany, it works in France. Those two countries have the highest rated heath care in the world. We're the most expensive and only rated 11th in the best poll I could find. 14th and 17th in two other polls. Socialized medicine is coming. obamacare is the first step. It will be expensive at first and it will have flaws but this has to come. Germans pay 54% of their overall pay for taxes and this and that to various levels of govt. They get socialized medicine and car insurance in return. We pay 61% overall in our various taxes and get nothing. It has to come. Might as well get used to it.

@jessejaymes socialized medicine in America? Good luck seeing a doctor, enjoy letting someone tell ya that your baby was just born but not worth the expense of the heart surgery she needs to live more than a few days, watch your wife crumble from that.
Let me let you in on a little secret, that most of us figured out.
    There is no Gravy Train.
Our system works, it took basically a new nation to the top and we stand alone as THE world super power. We are free to pursue any path we choose, to have as much or as little as you are willing to work for.
Are there those down on their luck, absolutely, and we need to help them up, not take them to raise.

  • #224

@Elliotsreport The war in Iraq went on a credit card from the bank of China in our children and grand children's name (President Barack Obama), the fines the business owner pays comes out of his or hers pocket, and in return they will retrieve it from the customers pocket.

You often use your brain so I am appealing to you to do so here. He is cutting all staff to part time thus eliminating his requirement to provide healthcare. So his costs don't increase. On top of that he is adding a 5% surcharge to every meal that will come out of tips if the customer doesn't pay it and will come out of the tip anyways because the customer will have already given an extra 10%. This guy isn't trying to cover costs he is trying to raise profits by 5% by essentially cutting the wages of his employees and appealing to angry Republican customers.
Plus he is doing it all now when Obamacare doesn't take effect for another year.
  • #90
    !
@Cheenoguy oh I agree he is making a statement. No doubt. However, if you don't think that he is just one of many if not all businesses that will be reducing their full time work force in favor of more part time emloyees to keep a profit, you will be disappointed. Why can't some people understand that you cannot stick it to businesses because the get shifted to the consumer. That's simply capitalism. Profit is the point of a business otherwise its called a charity. This increase in prices of goods and services to off set Obamacare costs and new tax or regulations will be an across the board standard. Get ready to pay a bot more for everything. Hope we can all afford it. What funny is this hurts everyone but the top 2-3% you all are so eager to bleed white. Instead we in the middle class will shoulder the burden.

    @ir0nw0lfe
I actually don't mind paying more so that people can have insurance. My objection is threefold here:
    1) The employees aren't going to get insurance.
    2) The "added surcharge" is going to cost the wait staff even if customers pay the surcharge. Viewing it as extra will lead to a lower tip. Also the wait staff (who rely largely on tips for their income) will be paying for the coverage for their co-workers that the co-workers won't get.
    3) Obamacare doesn't take effect until 14 while the "consequences" take effect immediately.

@MRMacrum it may seem unreasonable at the moment, but its probably a good idea to have a cash bumper for when it does hit,i have yet to see a government progran that does not have huge over runs, always gets worse as time goes on,remember no one has read it or completely understands it,also there are many parts still to be written into it
  • #36
    !
@MRMacrum - I believe this is better categorized as saber rattling. Market forces in a small margin business like restarants would put him out of business if he thought to jump the price increase gun. You should be a little more wary about using the "price gouging" moniker. It lacks reality.

@DerivePI I call em as I see them. But yes, he is grand standing. And as a small margin business myself, I understand the notion of jumping the gun on raising prices.

Only lousy one I've found was Lake City, FL...and we ended up with a free meal. They're clean, have great food (usually) and servers are excellent. Glad we have one in our city!

I haven't been in a Denny's in 20 years. But I will say this. Common logic says if you cut the hours of workers below the level of having to pay for health care then you are incurring no additional cost. To cut the hours AND charge for Obamacare is simply profit gouging.
  • #69
    !
Spot on. Not only that, he should be running at the optimal price level and any increase in cost will actually DECREASE profit using basic supply and demand models. So he's saying the ACA will decrease profit while making a move to decrease his profit, self fulfilling prophecy anyone?
  • #212

because Denny's caters to only the elite if America. Why should the elite have to deal with some waiters, working 30 hours at a buck.75 fire them all...
And when Obama care hits in 2014 and nothing bad happens, I hope they all go out of business for scaring America like they are doing. Romney lost. Get OVER it
  • #129
    !
What scum! This guy resides at the lowest levels of the latrine.
If anyone deserves a total beat down, it's this guy.
In true Romney fashion, he strives to hurt his employees anyway he can, just to increase the bottom line. He stupidly assumes that every customer tips properly, many people don't tip at all, especially old goat conservatives. Naw, he knows better. Business always blames labor for their costs when it's actually their capitalist swine brethren. Big oil, insurance companies, banks are the greedy that overcharge in order to make obscene profits.
In the long run, this guy will not only cut costs, but make a tidier profit.
I'll lay you 10 to 1 that he has illegal labor working in his kitchens, too.
Any excuse to not give well deserved benefits to his employees.
    Mitt would be sooooooo proud.
His employees should all organize and on one of the busiest days of the year, simply walk out on him, costing him the maximum.

All companies will end up doing this , just like any tax they pass it on to the consumer and will cut back ours to pay the Obama fine and put everyone on obamacare . As a company it's a smart move .
  • #97
    !
I knew this was coming! Denny's is not the first to do this. I have read about many businesses in the country doing tis because of Obummercare! Thanks again jerks for voting for him!
  • #89
    !
Every single business is going to pass the increased cost of doing business on to the consumer or cut budget items ie staff or put off expansion. Food industries are just being hit the hardest because the profit margin is so low. If you know in advance that costs are going to rise it's inherent in business to start as early as possible to decrease the effect. We all know things are going to get rougher and have started trimming things down in our households so for a business to do it is not that surprising.
  • #62
    !
Oh yes, I have not eaten there before, will have to try them. This is great, keep the price hikes coming. You wanted Obama, you got him!
  • #47
    !
We tried to tell you guys people would lose jobs over Obamacare and that businesses would raise prices if they had to pay for it. Now you're all puffed up and angry about it...who's fault is that? One thing I do not agree with Denny's on is taking out of tip money. Good grief, Denny's servers don't make hundreds of dollars a shift in tips like some do. I'd rather pay the 5% if I can find one that's clean enough to eat in.
  • #28
    !
Charging in advance for fees that haven't been levied yet. Sound business practice or just meaningless posturing from a sore loser?
  • #8
    !
Denny's sucks. I have never liked that place. If the man said he would going to raise the price of everything 5% then fine, but all the big chains have already announced they are cutting hours and staff to get below the Obamacare threshold for each location to minimize the burden of that disastrous law on the franchise owner.
