the good news is none of these restaurants accept food stamps anyways... so the boycott by Obama's supporters will have minimal affect.
  • #33
    !
@DARSB there's the proof ... the takers and moochers with the help of the government have dragged themselves out of the gutter and into Applebees... still I doubt the loss of that particular clientele will have any affect on Applebees bottom line.... and actually I would imagine the servers will be glad to see that particular group go ... I don't imagine e.b.t allows tipping.

thanks for the link though it definitely shows to what extremes the welfare class has risen.

@bsking those are up scale foodstamp users, none of that cooking at home and using those things wisely for them.

@tomincali I know . its all because the moochers dont like to feel like they are less "worthy"than those who work for a living. we need to find ways to make losers feel like winners.

I completely support these boycotts, and have personally called for them on this site! Good for American---We should NEVER allow some corporate jerk to hold us hostage...Especially over an election that was duly decided by the majority of the American People...I'm telling you...If we keep this up...someday soon, these corporate assholes, are going to finally get the message---The The American People Will Not Be Bullied or Intimidated out of our Democratic Rights!

@Sonny Screw the corporate jerks with your wallet! So sell your computer (CEO of DELL computers worth $14.6 Billion - source - http://www.forbes.com/profile/michael-dell/ ), get off of the internet (Verizon CEO McAdam was given $1.4 million in salary last year, and earned stock awards of nearly $18.8 million - source http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-57400597-17... ), stop watching leftist CBS news (CEO Leslie Moonves - CBS
Compensation in 2011:$68.4 million Change from 2010: Up 20 percent - source - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/25/ceo-... ), and give up your cell phone (Ex-CEO Schmidt gets $101M pay package in new Google job - source - http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/tech/news/stor... ).

By your ethical claims, you may have many changes to make......

@Jasonopolis The point is do not pick and choose who to boycott based on a news article that is only reporting information that they want you to hear. Make a true stand for your beliefs and you will be taken seriously. If you want to boycott a restaurant, whose profit margins are VERY MINIMAL at around 5%(source - http://www.forbes.com/sites/sageworks/2012/01... )... then at least follow it up by boycotting the rich in these media companies whose profit margins are closer to 23%(source - http://smallbusiness.chron.com/typical-profit... )

Just be consistent. That's all I am saying.
  • #163

@Jasonopolis You can't survive in the modern world by boycotting every company in existence. Sonny is correct in saying you should pick and choose what issues you care about.

Obamacare is just another cost of doing business. When gas prices go up, transportation costs of goods go up, but there are no boycotts of the oil companies. It is the business owners prerogative to pass costs on or not. Let the consumer decide if they will pay more.

This is another example of the government interfering with private business. If there were no taxes with Obamacare, we wouldn't be having this discussion, would we?

But, Obama said he wouldn't tax the middle class. Another broken promise.

Ah, the unforeseen consequences of liberal policy making.

This boycott is in support of making these fat cat CEOs offer a health plan to their employees... Otherwise known as "Common Decency." Have you seen a picture of "Papa John" Schnatter's mansion, nicknamed The Castle? It's hard to believe he can't afford to offer a health plan if he has that much money to burn. Yes, he has a right to be a selfish butthole. And people of conscience have a right to boycott his business.
  • #160
    !
@NormalFlora Not only that, but he has a promotion to GIVE away 2 million pizzas. End that promotion, offer health care to his employees and he could probably save over 25 million dollars.

Come on righties - Chow down and stuff your faces with Chik-Fil-A, Jimmy Johns and Papa Johns. Then go by Dennys for a discriminatory Grand Slam! Keep on eatin' that stuff and boycotting all those highly educated liberal doctors. You'll prove Lindsay Graham right sooner rather than later.

@LGRepublican Liberal master plan?? I guess no one can't handle a 4 cent to 10 cent price increase per pie ( their numbers) who would notice? Much better to reduce the size liberal customer base by screwing their employee's. Great scheme by the CEO

People SHOULD speak with their wallets as that shapes the free market. However, people should also know that when a business incurs a new cost, they will attempt to raise prices, cut costs, or both.
  • #7
    !
absolutely and they have to. when government implements regulation on business it always has a direct effect on the consumer and Obama Care is no different except and it's excessive scope . Obamacare will destroy this country.
  • #12
    !
@bsking in this case all businesses should bite the bullet and pay the cost out of their operating budgets. until 'americans' finally learn that the federal gov't. should be paying for all health care for every person on u.s. soil the companies should gladly shoulder the cost.

Just a month or so ago, papa john said he would have to raise his price per pie by 13 cents. Now he says he has to lay people off? something doesnt jive about his figures. I'm sure he as to lay people off because he makes shitty pizza, and doesn''t want to admit it...
  • #64
    !
Nothing jives about the Papa John's statements. First of all Obamacare doesn't take effect until 2014. He's out nothing until then. Second if you cut hours you've cut overhead. So adding to the price is nothing more than profit gouging.

" Do you support any of these restaurant boycotts of buycotts?" LOL - No, how silly and a waste of time. BTW notice that Hostess is liquidating? Seems even with the information that they could no longer be able to stay in business and pay the unions the more and more money they wanted the higher and more generous pensions and benefits demanded by the unions, the UNIONS voted 92% to continue the strike. So, thanks to the unions showing, that like true leftists, they will not compromise, not give an inch and will continue to be the greediest workers on earth, 18,500 people will now be out of a job. Heck, I thought America being like Greece was a few years out, seems, for once, I was wrong. We are there. How stupid, workers, in this economy, told that if they do not compromise, the company will close, chose to vote themselves out of a job. Great, before they HAD a job, benefits and some security, now, nada, nothing, but, wow, they sure showed management who was in charge. Ah, but of course, Obama is in charge, they will get taxpayer money to supplement them for how long? Is it back to almost 2 years of freeloading? Another group of people one fruit snack short of a Happy Meal!
  • #61
    !
I really wish people wouldn't do what you are doing here. The Hostess strike had nothing to do with more money, better benefits or more pension. It had to do with trying to keep the current contract in place, not lose more benefits than the ones they gave up a year ago and to force the company to continue funding pensions which they stopped doing more than a year ago. I know a guy at Hostess. He makes 10.00 an hour. How much less would you like him to take?
  • #81

@jessejaymes Conservatives like to demonize those that make $10/hr as being greedy. That's probably the biggest reason that they lost last Tuesday.

Its only "silly" if you don't understand the very concept of freedom & democracy in the first place....
  • #171
    !
@Sonny yeah, right...freedom and democracy. Companies with HUGE profits raise prices and lay off workers because of something they can easily afford. The American way! Oh, wait...that would take some money from their pockets. Poor guys. This has nothing to do with the election, or obamacare, this has to do with spoiled, stubborn little children not getting what they want.
  • #194
    !
@jessejaymes Yes, I know, there was a good article in the WSJ today, unfortunately, the workers cut off their nose to spite their face. Hostess was facing bankruptcy, again, and couldn't afford the crazy demands of the unions. Did you know that by union rules the truck delivering twinkies couldn't be used at the same time to deliver wonderbread? If I recall correctly the DRIVER was not even allowed to unload the truck, a different union worker had to do that and one each for every different product. This kept union workers employeed, but cost up to 3 times the expense for one truck load of products. Very expensive and totally inefficient. This created a nightmare of delivery schedules and routes and to complicate things further, the deliverer of the twinkies could not also deliver wonderbread even if it were on the truck. Surely you see the needless complication of such rules. This is what drove up expenses and caused a loss of profit. As to your friend, not to be harsh, but at least he had a job, now he doesn't. Would he trade getting $10/hr vs no job at all? They were being asked to pay something like 17% of their benefits, in the real world of real non-union jobs, that would be a gift. See, it's all a matter of perspective. If you can, read the WSJ article, it was very concise and informative, giving all sides of the problem.

Boycott the business out of business that laid off some workers... They are just boycotting the jobs that do remain for working class people, what hypocrisy
  • #73

@Jasonopolis Yeah, look what happened when they tried to boycott Chik-fil-A, record sales! Maybe these rubes should just stay home
  • #135
    !
If a company owner (and you) think that it is ok for that owner to take out his revenge on his employees because his candidate lost an election for President...Then those people who protest his BS retaliation efforts are not being "hypocritical"...The are being AMERICAN'S!... And if YOU don't know the difference...then its no wonder your party lost in this last election!
  • #175
    !
@Sonny for the millionth time, im not a republican - and my profile says so. These owners have to downsize to be able to absorb the costs soon to be imposed on them. Either that or raise the price of pizza and have to lay them off anyway because less people will then buy their more expensive product. So these very dumb democrats imposed extra costs on these businesses, the business responds by cutting costs so they can remain in business competetively, and then these rubes boycott them. I know they want to hurt the owners, but its obvious this will not work, obvious. So the only logical conclusion I can come up with is these boycotters want the rest of these american working class folks out of a job.

News flash - Papa John's passes along to the customer the cost of pizza dough, pepperoni, employee wages, running the ovens and every other cost, associated with doing business! When are some idiots finally going to understand that the number one objective of any business, be it the local Mom & Pop store down the street or a multi-national corporation, is to make a profit, for without profit, there is no business.

We should not pay for workers comp. we don't need it. we need liability and Hospitalization. Workers comp is another way to drain businesses of capital needed for health insurance for its employees. Trade off the cost of workers comp to have the employee contribute and get a tax break. and shared cost as usual for group health benefits
