AZ Governor Jan Brewer is known for liking a good fight, and her actions at a press conference this week did nothing to dispel that impression.
KTVK-TV's Dennis Welch asked Brewer, do you believe that global warming is caused by man? Brewer responded no, it's not man-made - an answer that's no big surprise from a conservative governor. The interesting part of the exchange happened after the press session ended.
As Brewer walked away she turned back towards Welch, who had his back to her.
Then, apparently, "Brewer took her left hand, balled it into a fist and with the back of her hand she slugged the reporter on the back of his right arm. Not hard, but with enough force that he spun around to see what was going on."
She leaned in and asked, "where in the hell did that come from?" (referring to his question about climate change). He answered that he thought the question was just fine, according to a report from another journalist at the scene, who called the whole situation "kind of funny and surreal." Brewer responded, shaking her head, that the conference was about energy not the climate, implying that the question was off-topic.
Brewer's opinion on climate change has already impacted national policy, since she's issued an executive order withdrawing AZ from the "Western Climate Initiative," a project for limiting CO2 emmissions.
