I really don't care which side thinks they "won." This is not a football game. If the deal will work out well for everyone in our nation, then it is a win for all of us. If it causes more harm, it's a lose for all of us. This partisan bs is ridiculous.

Everyone, especially his obamaness, needs to look at the Constitution. The House controls the money...not the Senate! They Senate can approve anything they wish; but until the House of Represenatives says OK nothing happens.....

more of a Pyrric victory in my opinion

One thing that is certain is that the government will continue to finance well over 40% of their costs unto future generations, thus we can be certain that they will be the real losers. Talking about taxation without representation!
  • #16
@IMAQT The taxation without representation is when democrats get about 1.5 million more congressional votes than the GOP but the GOP retains the majority. Obama won the majority of the votes. The dems won the majority of the Senate votes. The dems won the majority of the congressional votes.
  • #43
Well, that is only part true. The Constitution states the CONGRESS shall have the power to lay and collect taxes and pay the debt and provide for the common defense and welfare.

Congress is made up of the House and Senate.

If a sewage pipe brakes in your home, and lets say the it fills your house to the ceilings with s#¡+... Your not gonna raise the ceilings of your house to take on more s#¡+... Your gonna clean the s#¡+ out!!!

It should be the same way with the s#¡+ in Washington!!! Lets clean the s#¡+ out!!!

A few years ago a sewage line to my apartment building broke. Living on the bottom floor of the apartment, I got to endure most of the overflow with 3 other apartments.
Thankfully I had Renters Insurance and they covered a major percentage of the problem, but it was still a very trying time to say the least.
Your post brought back some bad memories.:)

I'm proposing with my metaphor that we need to clean the s#¡+ out of our house, fix the plumbing ourselves, and start over!!! It's gonna be a stinky and s#¡++y process, but its got to be done!!!

Raising taxes on anybody is the same as raising the ceiling, just to take on more s#¡+!! If we gradually remove the s#¡+(endless spending) from our house, then we eventually will find the sewage pipe that is causing the s#¡+ to gush in... It's gonna be a s#¡++y job!!!

Anyone who considers this a "Victory", is full of Marlacky !!! The victory may be for the POTUS, but 'we the
    people' are the victims..

Was there ever an actual fight? How is this a "victory"... So that's why B.O. is going to spend $1M+ to fly BACK to Hawaii? And he's earned that by...(?)

Not so fast White House. It's funny sad that this seems to be some kind of contest between ego's of the rich and powerful. While we the people have to deal with the fall out of a terribly failed political system.
To me the only victory either side should claim is when someone's comes up with a an that proves over time to work, and that will be determined by "We The People". If we are working, paying our own bills, able to afford to dream. See Political Machine, we are the judge, we are your judge, and your an to divide us is working, but for how long do you think it will work? How long do you think it will take before either party, not seeing any positive results, becomes its govt.'s enemy, before we decide our gov't is obsolete and only self serving?
This country has stood up for itself before, we can do it again. Only this time gov't, you do not have the support of your military, not against their moms and dads, brothers and sisters.

They feel bad about the lousy $15B in budget cuts. They might have to take $15B off the $600B in tax increases to look "balanced". Just watch, the rest of the $600B will be spent. The idea of taxing only the rich? That won't get Obama the Idiot enough money...he will need more taxes and will now look to the middle class. Note that his rhetoric changes depending on his current agenda.

If you think raising the capital gains tax from 15% to 20% represents a "victory" for the middle class you're either a liar or an idiot. Perhaps both.

In light of what is going on in politics it doesn't matter if Obama is correct or not, he will be given credit for it by the liberal media and his followers will swear by whatever he says. He was the one who pushed the issue for higher taxes on most Americans with this deal but he will tell his deaf and blind followers that it was because of the Republicans that he had to go back on his word and they will believe him. When you have no morals, no sruples or ethics and you get voted in with voters who know that then you've got a pass to do just about whatever you want. That's where Obama is now. People don't care if he lies, they don't care if he's honest, they just don't care. He gives them stuff and that's what they want. He promises to take money from the rich and give it to them and that's what they want. That's why Sigmund Freud said America was a mistake. He knew it would come down to this. The uneducated takers would get enough votes that they could bring down the governmnet. He had the foresight to see that happening long before we did.

This wasn't a compromise - it was a 'the plan' - which equaled more tax dollars. For those who argue Dem. or Rep. , this tax on all of us needs to make you realize one thing - 'there is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE in the parties today , at that level , they are all HOGS that feed at the same trough . And we , taxpayers are forced to 'slop these hogs'. They just have different BS stories to feed you - if you're willing to be misled.

A victory? Only if sending America the way of Norway or Belgium is a victory. Obama is getting over half the country used to being dependent on the government. Once they become very comfortable with their government sponsored this, that and the other thing, they will not mind paying the higher taxes necessary.. ALL of them. Even they can't be dumb enough to think that taxing the top 1% more and more will ever be enough to cover all the entitlements. Nope, as many Democrats voiced over the past few days, the REAL middle class are people who make $30,000 or less, "they are the ones WE need to take care of". The president even alluded to this in his remarks that this tax hike is only the beginning, there will be others down the road. If you think you soaked the rich, well pals, it's your turn next. We don't make enough to cover the expenses and we all know that Obama will never significantly cut anything. He calls things a cut if he just doesn't ask for as high a raise as anticipated. Spending $1 M on a giveaway and not asking for more than $1 M for the next year is NOT a cut. A cut would be asking for only $800K.
  • #105
it is a hollow bill that only cuts spending 15B. the government is spending $1 trillion a year, most of it borrowed or created out of thin air. when the country goes into the 2nd recession under Obama, he will move to raise taxes on the middle class. then you will hear more rhetoric about being "patriotic" and how you should pay your taxes no matter what..
