This is essentially an issue to take away attention from the fact that our Elected Officials aren't doing their jobs.
Go ahead, keep buying into the diversion techniques and ignoring the blatant disregard for elected positions and the responsibility to The People that it infers.
DC is full of crooks and the more we buy into this issue and others like it, the more they are able to hide.
My God people if you argued HALF as passionately about the Patriot Act and NDAA 12 as you do f$%ing Gay Marriage, then the Constitution wouldn't be a punch line in the cosmic joke that is the direction of our country right now.
I don't give a rats ass who people marry. Its not gonna matter one iota should you get labeled a terrorist and imprisoned indefinitely without rights. And the President wants the ability to kill you as well, sans any trial whatsoever.
Yah, I can see why this topic keeps coming up and we've yet to even have one decent article on the blatant disregard for the Constitution that our elected officials (I use that term loosely) currently have. I mean my GOD! Someone might not be able to get married!
Well trust me when I say, you aren't missing a godamn thing.

I'd vote this statement up 10 times. Will you sign my petition stating that the government has no business regulating marriage between consenting adults and that they need to rescind their illegal laws against polygamy?

@jessejaymes - I will. I don't care who marries whom, be it two women, two men, or two women and one man, or three men and two women, or whatever. It shouldn't be any business of the governments. Of course, with polygamous marriages, the tax code could become even more of a tangled mess than it already is. Not to mention custody laws. Etc.

@Denizen_Kate I don't care either, but I don't want my money to pay for the bundle of children they decide to have and then find out they aren't as cheap as they look to be in the movies.

@Denizen_Kate as it is, polygamy is a patriarchal venture which is all about the man being able to get all the sex he wants with as many partners as he wants... even if the 'women' are children. the only way that i'd support polygamy is if it were to be set up that the women run the family and that the man has no say in who he marries. brides should only be chosen by a vote of the existing women in the household.

Since no one has been able to demonstrate in court (or anywhere else) that same-sex marriage affects anyone but the people involved, I hope the SCOTUS does the right thing and upholds equal rights for all law-abiding citizens.

Marriage as a legal state belongs recognized in every state as legitimate with the same shackles and benefits, in gender-free equality.

i'm christian, also... this isn't a christian issue, nor one in which any religion should be involved other than the fact that, in god's eyes we are all equal.

@dances-weebles your obviously not a true Christian. Yes we are all equal in God's eyes but God has address all rights and wrongs.

The SCOTUS should provide that Gay couples are entitled the same privileges as Straight couples, simple as that. Just like the decisions in favor of Loving v. Virginia.

What if the government did not back straight marriage? That is to say what if there were no longer government-backed benefits to being married. Would you be okay with that?

@Waynestew That's a fair question. I would. We are overpopulated. there is no reason to be giving people incentives to have children.

I disagree. The federally governed institution of marriage is not a right any more than welfare, social security, pell grants or small business loans. If only poor people qualify for welfare it isn't because we are against people who have the ability to financially support themselves. It's not even the federal governments job to establish rights.

You know, I ought to be ashamed, really I should, but I support gay marriage because I would just watch the shit out of "Gay Divorce Court." ;)

Yes it is. It is sad that we are still debating this when there are way more important things to worry about. Let people marry who they want. How does that affect the price of gas, the unemployment rate, or my life in any way?

What's sad is the amount of money the Mormon church funneled into the Prop 8 doings in California. Money that could have done a lot to help people right here in Utah. Money that amazingly somehow doesn't make them supportive of any political process and somehow (beyond me!) they retain their tax exempt status.
You are right. Lots of sad things.

    @Fishbone345

Million$ were spent here in MN to support adoption of a new amendment when it is already illegal here...Seems that's not enough for the haters...

There should be no law to dictate to any two consenting adult who he or she can or can not marry so as long as the other person is another consenting adult.

I tell you what me and my 357 are in a position that if we are interrupted by those sensationalist we consider it a invasion of privacy an unwelcome intruder and they can suffer the consequences, it's like road rage.

Federal, The federal government should take states rights away and stop them from banning same-sex marriage. They have the power and right to do it by the 14th amendment.. "Equal protection under law clause".

I have read some of the comments in this forum say things like Gay marriage is none of my business, I like women , or Lets get onto more important topics like economy, I find that the Apathy that People have about issues that really do affect us is mind boggling. If anyone thinks that Oh just let the Gays marry and destroy the sanctity of Marriage between a Man and a Woman doesn't effect you in a big way you better think again. That is just one issue amongst many that our Liberal society is making the United States doomed to fail. Our founding fathers that formed this country did so because they left all that behind and started a new world here. Founded on Christian Values. Take those Values out and you have a selfish, self centered, what is in it for me nation. We live in a society today that doesn't know the meaning of sacrifice and commitment. Just look at out divorcee rate today. People Don't take responsibility for their debt, Look at the bankrupt rate today, My father taught me that a Person is only as good as their word. I see even in my own adult children the effects of such a liberal,non-committed,not responsible, selfish society. Acceptance of gay marriage is just one of many things that will bring this Great Nation to its knees some day. God help us.
