If only he'd spared folks his antics and left it to the professionals
A South Carolina teacher may lose his job for repeatedly stomping on an American flag in front of students in the course of a school day he likely regrets. The New York Daily News reports
on the case of educator Scott Compton of Chapin High School, in the city of the same name, who's been placed on administrative leave with pay until officials can determine the appropriate consequence for the action Compton's attorney says was never meant to offend.
"He meant no intentional disrespect to those men and women who served our country or to America itself," said Darryl D. Smalls, who is representing Compton, and claims his client was merely trying to show that America is an ideal above and beyond the "material objects that represent it."
But that explanation won't cut it for parent Michael Copeland, whose daughter witnessed the stomp in question: "He totally ignored what would have been an excellent teaching point to simply just throw the flag down and show no respect to it at all."
