Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell vows to fight proposed gun control measures in a new email to supporters that warns: "They're coming for your guns."
"You and I are literally surrounded," the email sent by McConnell's campaign said. "The gun-grabbers in the Senate are about to launch an all-out-assault on the Second Amendment. On your rights. On your freedom."
President Obama unveiled a comprehensive plan to reduce gun violence last week, following up on a promise to take meaningful action after last month's mass-shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. The plan calls for universal background checks, and a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines.
The email asks supporters to sign a petition opposing gun control measures and when they do, it takes them to a page to donate to McConnell's campaign. Over the weekend, McConnell, R-Ky., also sent out a telephone recording to supporters in his home state, promising to fight Obama's plan "tooth and nail."
