Indian Chief ‘Two Eagles’ was asked by a white government official,‘You have observed the white man for 90 years. You’ve seen his wars and his technological advances. You’ve seen his progress, and the damage he’s done.’
    The Chief nodded in agreement.
The official continued,‘Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?’
The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied.‘When white man find this land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex.’
Then the chief leaned back and smiled.
‘Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.’

This president has manged to stir up trouble with every group of people...You can't
change History, but you can detract from 'real' issues, and he's an expert at that.

@marine1 They'd be way too confused...he confuses us, can you imagine what they
would think? We had a psychologist who went to do mental health work with the indians...They threw him off the reservation, too funny. They have their own laws and rules and don't take kindly to someone changing them.

this is a stupid thread ,no doubt started by an ignorant liberal fool.
How could the settlers have been illegal immigrants? There was no country or government set up aside from the one the settlers brought with them.
The settlers didn't come and take advantage of a welfare system ,enroll their children in Indian school at the expense of the Indian, avoid taxation, bleed the health care system, undercut Indian wages by working cheaper and without proper licensing and insurance and take from the Indian economy by sending their earnings out of the country..etc etc etc.
I think I speak for most when I say this country champions and encourages legal immigration more than any country on earth. However it is a disrespectful slap in the face by illegal immigrants who come to take advantage of a system and have no desire or intent to fit in,gain legal citizenship and be a productive tax paying member of society who contributes equal to those who are natural citizens and contributes not only economicicaly but practices social and community responsibility as well.

That is pretty muhc what I have said for years when I hear this same poor argument. Tehy see no difference in settlers coming to a new land where they risk their lives to work hard with no government and those illegal immigrants of today.

Good point. There were no laws, no national boundaries back then, only tribal bounds.
The Natives at the time basically welcomed the White man with open arms. This is pretty much the same thing that European Christians did to the Hawai'ians as well.
White man comes to visit, decides to stay and has no regard for their hosts.
The Indians and Hawai'ians were naive, friendly, welcoming and their kindness was rewarded with deceit and eventually, almost annihilation.
Let's face it, us White folks are greedy, unconscionable a-holes.

"Native Americans" were not the first people here either. They took it from another group the Same way we took it from them. I had a class once that covered this. I will have to find that book and read it again. If the illegal aliens can take the the country from us, they can make their own rules.

@Libertyiskey Who did they take it from? The theory is that they crossed the Berring Strait from Russia but they're not white. Who was here when they came here? Neanderthals? There is no recorded link to what is now the USA and pre human occupiers before what we call the Native American Today.

When Europeans first arrived in the Western Hemisphere there were no laws against immigrating here. You cannot be illegal when there is no law to break.
  • #91
    !
@Dan_Tien I know they had their on set of rules/laws whithin their tribes but how they interpreted imigration i'm not sure. You can bet that the rules they set in place for the people landing here were repeatedly violated or ignored.

@marine1 I think that the first Native Americans didn't know the consequences of letting the strange looking foreigners set up camp in the neighborhood, sort of like the bedouin who let the camel put its nose in his tent.

    @marine1

I don't believe that is the whole truth though. Have you ever wondered where the name "Indian Giver" came from? And why they were called "savages"? I'm not referring to all Indians, some were freindly. When I was young I knew a very old woman who had some very old journals from her ancestors who came to America. Joeseph was a head school master who immigrated from England. The journal talked about his journey here and how he purchased his land from the Indians. Him and others with him including family. After they built on the land the Indians would raid their small village, stealing, burning their homes and killing if anyone resisted.

Well, this man is not the only "Native American" here. Everyone of us who were born in the Americas are "Native Americans." There were "Native People" here when the first Europeans came. But there was no America until European cartographers named it after Amerigo Vespucci.
The issue here is national borders and those who do not respect them or the laws of a sovereign nation. These folks are not "illegal immigrants" they are "illegal aliens."
  • #133
    !
you are not native American. You are european American. Stop mixing the two up. Ur ancestors came from Europe. Being born in America doesn't make you native American. It makes you american.
  • #162
    !
@Starsplash No...since I was born here I am native to America just as much as anyone else who was born here. And, if you get right down to it everyone came from someplace else whether you like it or not...some just earlier than others and never knew the name "America" until the Europeans called it that. The term "Native American" was created because someone did not like the term "American Indian." I don't blame them for not wanting to be called "Indians." But, choose a better name if you want to be correct.
Look, I have ancestors who were Native People...in fact I am about 1/32, depending which documents you believe. So, I am not showing any disrespect to anyone. I just understand how it really is and don't feel that you have anymore claim to this country than anyone else who was born here.

My great grandmother (maternal) was born on the Cherokee reservation. My father's family came from Ireland. My brother looks Native American but I definitely take after the Irish side. Am I only a little bit illegal?
  • #10

I hate to say it but the American Indians also were illegal also. They came from Europe across the land bridge in Alaska. I am also part American Indian .

They came from Asia. There is also a theory that many of them sailed here from Asia and the Pacific Islands.
While there were tribal wars I am unaware of a group of people being here and being pushed out/aside by these Asian peoples. Maybe I am wrong. If you are aware of any please share. Otherwise filling an empty land is not the same as taking it from others.
  • #54
    !
Then you would be fairly surprised to know the ones who crossed the land bridge were not European, They were precursors to the Asian people, More akin to the native indigenous populations in Russia today such as the Samoye Nenets which are genetically closer to Mongolians and Asians than Europeans.

You also do know the travel across the land bridge occurred literally tens of thousands of years ago. Long before "Europe" was even considered a thing. So this is essentially groups of humans that had traveled North and then Eastward out of the cradle of civilization in Mesopotamia from where humans first started to develop in Africa. The likelihood they moved from the middle east to Europe and then moved along the northern Artic Boundry 20-40k years ago is not only not logical, but has no substantiation from a genetic perspective.

Well It quite possibly wasn't set up ,a border entry point that is on the Bering Strait land bridge, if that's where the Amerindians originate, All Europeans originate from Africa , so I don't see why the Asians /Amerindians didn't, at least from Prof. Leaky's Lucy . Aunt Lucy and Ethel Mertz did a show on this ,riiiight.
If you ask Canadians ,most will not know how many Kings of France ruled that place until war turned the land over to the British.(example) Borders are not a phonom

You can call me a racist or what ever if you want but Iam going to state the facts weather you want to here them or not. The fact is the indians didn't own shit. Did they have documents stating every inch of what was theirs? This blessed country would still be undeveloped forrest if only it were occupied by the indans. Can you imagine what the world would be like today if only the Indians occupied North America and this land went undeveloped? They would more than likely still be on horseback living in teepees. Regardless everyone should be thankful for the Europeans to have setteled in this great land and developed it into what it is today. I know the white man has alot of blood on his hands but tell me what race hasn't. This country has feed and policed the world but everything you here about the white man is how evil and greedy the white man has been which is a bunch of bull and me for one am getting tired of it. Nothing but negativity when talking about the white race. All races have good and bad including the white. I know slavery was wrong but not one person alive today should be held responseable for it but yet they still are. But you also have to blame the black man for selling out his brothers, the white man just didn't go to Africa and take them. We all are living a better life because of the way history played out (with the exceptions of slavery) including the indians. I don't see no end to all this craziness and do blame the liberals for all the problems this country faces today. They have got everyone thinking they are getting screwed.

@mimi57 Your right mimi. Our economy is in shambles and the guy hasn't even made any effort what so ever to create jobs, but to end jobs mainly coal. Iam so sick of hearing "gay rights" and "immagration reform" that I can't go this much longer. You would think these are the only problems this country faces today. And like you said, hes a pro when pitting one against one another just to get our minds off everything while hes slowly dismantleing our country. I can not believe how stupid this country has become. Hell Iam not a uneducated person with very little education but it shouldn't take a Harvard grad to see what this man is doing. We can only imagine what direction we would be headed if Romney were elected. Its a damn shame that we will never know. He had his faults and his biggest was being wealthy which nowdays is a sin. He was a good man and he loved this country and know his first priority would been our economy, not worrying at this time about gays and immagration. All I can say Mimi is people like you and I are a dieing breed and feel sick to my stomach at what kind of freak show our kids and grand kids our going to be living in,we all are doomed.

Why is it that anyone thinks that American Indians are some sort of homogeneous group. The various tribes were and still are as different seperate countries.
  • #93

@Thegrif Of course. You know, if you take the long view, the whole "immigration" debate boils down to childish turf wars often used to camouflage the preservation of somebody's privileges - and that somebody isn't you or me.
