On Valentine's day the Illinois State Senate voted in favor of same-sex marriage by 34 to 21, a remarkable margin, according to the New York Times.
"It wasn't too long ago that people did not think they would see this day," State Representative Greg Harris told the Times.
The bill may hit a stumbling block in the Illinois House, which is divided on the issue. But if it passes the House, Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn is likely to sign it.
