    He's documented as covering for pedophile priests. He uses his influence at the UN to fight policies that would help give easier access to condoms in AIDS infested Africa.
    Just because the evil he does is in the name of religion doesn't make it less evil. In fact, it is evil on behalf of governments to not have pursued criminal charges on him for his aiding in the rape of children.
    If Obama wants my support for drones he needs to starts dropping them on Vatican City and everywhere else religious leaders teach hatred and violence.

    Why should ANYONE like the pope? Sits on billions of dollars in a palace while wearing dresses, women's shoes and a giant hat while trying to keep his followers in the middle ages and intimidate anyone that goes to the press or police over one of his many priests that molest young boys. The entire concept of a pope is a disgrace to everyone, even Christians should be disgusted by these charlatans. I put the Pope one step above the Westboro Baptist Church.

    funny you should say that. those clothes... the dress, shoes and that hat as well as other accoutrements, are called 'papal drag'. funny that.

    you know that the idea of the priests molesting young boys, by vatican city laws isn't really happening. the legal age of consent in vatican city is 12 years old because they followed an antiquated italian law. in light of this fact, all they have to say is,'the kid said it was okay, so it's okay.'
    .
    i understand that, in an effort to change this law, however, someone recently proposed age 7 because it is the same as their "age of accountability" but that caused a huge kerfuffle.

    The historical riches in the Vatican going back to 33 A.D. are priceless and preserved for all Christendom. It doesn't have any value to nonbelievers except to destroy it, and for those who do value it they don't want it liquidated. What Christian would buy any of it that hasn't already given what they could to help the poor? Would you give your priceless air looms to be destroyed by the same people who you intended to help?

    @hwyangel I have to object there. "All Christendom" isn't allowed into the Vatican Library, for instance, and literally God only knows what they are hiding about the early history of Christianity down there. It's a crime that they keep a stranglehold on knowledge that rightly belongs to the whole world.

    @Zazziness - she hasn't forgotten anything. Jennifer Rubin is just using honest non- partisan opinion that has been expressed about this man and his history to spout her endless nonsense about liberal bias.

    I haven't witnessed any hostility towards the Pope and I watch CBS and NBC evening news; the Sunday talk shows like Fox News Sunday (for 1/2 hour) then Chris Matthews Show, then Meet The Press (for 1/2 hour), then Face the Nation. At 6:00 pm our time, I watch 60 Minutes. Where is this supposed hostility? In the print media? We get syndicated columnists in our local newspaper, to which I subscribe. I haven't seen anything indicating any hostility there either. The media can be excused for not believing the Pope's reason(s) for abdicating. I don't believe them myself. I believe his abdication has something to do with the information that his butler leaked/tried to leak, some of which may have been withheld from the process, but used by other Vatican insiders to force the Pope to step down. For example, there's that little ugly episode with the "Legion of Christ" director whom the Pope appointed and who's now suspected of more than a few irregularities. There could be other stuff as well.

    quote by archbishop Fulton Sheen:

    "There are not more than 100 people in the world who truly hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they perceive to be the Catholic Church.....As a matter of fact, if we Catholics believed all of the untruths and lies which were said against the Church, we probably would hate the Church a thousand times more than they do."

    False. ANYONE who was subject to the sadistic brutality of the nuns in catholic school, and the tacit approval of this brutality by the priests, has very good reason to hate the catholic church.

    I don't hate catholics, but the way the pope and church covered up for pedophile preist, moved them from parish to parish. The pope helped the cover up. The church lacks all moral authority after that.

    @NormalFlora
    we are all sinners. and you are talking about the "people" in the church not the church itself and what it stands for. this is sterotyping the teachings by the sinners within that have crossed your path and are not following the teachings of the faith. Please don't categorize all of us with them. i had one of those "nuns" you are talking about for music class. she broke a few fingers from what i hear. what i know is she was sick. she had a problem because she sure wasn't operating by what the church taught.........

    @Jean Please explain the difference between the "people" who make up the catholic church and the church itself. That's like saying "The Nazi SS wasn't the problem. It was the people in it."

    I'm not Catholic, so I do not pretend to know much about it. From the first time I heard the Pope was stepping down, I thought that maybe he is sick and not wanting people to know. That would be his own personal health. Why do journalist think their entitled and that someone has to answer to them? The journalist have no right whatsoever to anything about the Pope. In fact, they're in Vatican City trying to say they have the right to an explanation from the Pope. Vatican City is it's own entity with its own laws. The journalist seem to forget their not standing in the U.S. demanding answers through freedom of the press and a Freedom of Information act to get the whole story. They are in VATICAN CITY AND HAVE NO JOURNALISTIC RIGHTS WHATSOEVER!!!!

    for no real reason, other than people get excited when a monarch abdicates his throne for no reason other than he's tired of being called an ass.

    I take it you are anti-pope. I think him abdicating is a good thing. Most Pope's just keep that title and the privileges that go with it until they die. Broken down very old men holding on to that position just keeps the Pope from doing the things a Pope should do.

    @PoliticalSpice
    This Pope inherited these problems from a Pope so old he could barely wave when rolled up to his window. A lot of things got past him! He was just too old to deal with these problems. To abdicate before the Pope is too elderly to do anything is what I believe is the right thing to do.

    @BelinKS Well I hope I never get too old to fail to have the moral clarity to understand what is wrong with pedophiles. The guy travelled and did much to promote the church. I can not see any excuse why he did not devote that energy to protecting children from these creeps and helping to put them
    in prison where they belong.

    I guess we should all bow down to a religion that elevates little boys for priestly abuse Treats little boys better than women women. A religion that no adherent adheres to (birth control) Were is not for its wonderful medical charity work it would have no reason to sit on a city state and own property tax free throughout the world.

    THEY DO NOT LIKE HIM CAUSE HE IS CONSISTENT IN TERMS OF THE BIBLES VIEW ON ISSUES LIKE ABORTION AND GAY MARRIAGE. SINCE OBAMA HAS CONTROL OF THE MEDIA NOW IT WOULD SEEM THEY DO NOT LIKE THE POPE GETTING IN THE WAY OF THE SOCIALIST AGENDA. YOU KNOW WHO ELSE CONTROLLED THE MEDIA BEFORE HE BECAME A DICTATOR? ADOLPH HITLER.

    There are many extreme lefts in the media who would lie about His Holiness. His Holiness Benedict stood up and admitted that he is tired and I do not blame him.
    As a Charismatic Roman Catholic, I hope & pray that the next Pope will be vibrant, young (if possible), and Charismatic.I would to love see an expansion into Latin America, Africa, and/or Asia for seeking a new Pope. I really miss Blessed John Paul II!

    Do they ever like anything that isn't socialist , liberal or anti-American ? Demean one religion while another sexually mutilates & demeans their women , makes walking bombs out of kids & the mentally handicapped . But let's not talk about that , after all it's ' politically incorrect'.?????? And before the boo-hooing starts - no I am not Catholic . Wanna spread blame ? Name all of them .

    Pop-culture no longer supports religion. And the media, of every type, embraces pop-culture. So it makes since, the media not liking the Pope. I find it hard to believe that this isn't common knowledge.

    The problem with the Vatican is that its stubbornly trying to cling onto old fundemental ideas and bringing it into an era of modernity that doesn't agree with the old traditions or evolved past traditions. Its the same with religion too if religion insists on converting people that dont believe in what the religion believes in.

    As time change, religion and the Vatican needs to change. More and more people dont believe in religion anymore or only sees religion as a guide, but nothing else. If religion and the vatican keeps insisiting on forcing us to follow their ways, then there are going to be problems.

    Welcome to the future. Either join us or get left behind. Take ur pick.

    The leftist media despises Christian religion in general, so why would it be surprising that they are biased against the Pope, leader of the world's largest Christian organization?
  • #90
    !
    @CaryNickel
    So you don't think the media should be biased against someone who is known to have covered for child raping priests?
  • #100
    !
    @CaryNickel
    Here's just one story. He knew about a child rapist and instead of defrocking him and calling the police he sent him to therapy and reassigned him while he was still in therapy. Of course, that priest raped more kids. Benedict is just as guilty as the priest himself. The priest, the pope, and the therapist who also didn't report it (probably another priest) should all be tried and executed.

    This pope helped cover up for pedophiles. I know you propbably think he deserves admiration for that, but I disagree. I think bin laden is scum. Now, I have disparaged a muslim. Explain to me please, how that makes what this pope did in covering up for pedophiles any better.
