Some will never accept the concept of same-sex couples having equal rights, just as some still don't accept the rights of women or blacks. But with the realization that the majority of the country does feel the inequities aren't what we as Americans want, they to will accept that this is right and fair.

Okay, first under the Constitution they should have that "right", however, don't mix issues....you're mixing legal issues with moral issues and physical attributes that people are born with {skin color} versus behavior that people can choose....

    So as an American I am for them, but as a christian there is freedom from that lifestyle they choose....{and as early as elementary now are being indoctrinated in schools into....}

@AceLuby actually I have a friend who is not attracted to women at all. He knows he is gay and feels it is a choice, he says he will remain celebate as he feels it is both "un Christian, and against nature" he feels it is absolutely a choice....

@SavageMazx I'm a woman who finds men to be sexually attractive.(Well, some men.) It most certainly is not a choice. It's the way I'm made on a biological level. If your friend is "not attracted to women at all," he is not making a choice. Sexual attraction happens on the hormonal level. He can choose to remain celibate. People do. But it's a darn shame he has to live life deprived of one of its greatest joys just because society has scolded him into denying himself.

60 years ago nobody would have believed that interracial marriages would ever be federally legal and funnily enough, the same exact arguments are being used on both sides. In 60 years our country will look back at this time in the same way we look back 60 years from now and think "I can't believe some people actually BELIEVED that..."

We need to move on with the same-sex marriage issue... cough... Republican extremists.... cough... need to slow down on certain issues and choose their battles. Two gay people have the same right to be happy as my wife and I.

it will never be "accepted", will we have to live with it since you force it down our throats every waking moment of the day,,,,yes, but that just makes us despise you even more.

Which one of our outspoken conservatives is going to be the first to now call Laura Bush and Dick Cheney "RINO's?" LOL
  • #24

Cheney's daughter is gay. He just had to wait until he was not in politics anymore to have her back. He should have done that while in office! I am a conservative and would have given the same answer as Laura Bush!
People keep wanting conservatives in a box where we all believe the same things. Just not true, never will be!

@BelinKS Know what would help? Next time there's a conversation where "all" the conservatives are insulting "liberals" for wanting to grant equality to all citizens on this matter, jump in there. "Hey, I'm a conservative. And I believe in equal rights."

The extremists will, of course, call you a RINO and claim you're not *really* conservative but thoughtful people will know better.

It will only be universally accepted when we see the divorce rate among same-sex couples reach 50%.....then we can say there is equality.

Not namimg names here but, society isn't who the celebate guy needs to worry about, I think GOD is the one he needs to fear. Making this legal is only making it to become an open sin. Discusting & wrong. I love the gay I just don't love their behavior & choices. A chioce is definately what it is. You are not born gay as some would like to blame on genetics. You turn out that way simply because you prefer to, even if it was due to a tramatizing event or not. There is theropy out there for those who were, & those who just simply do it because they can, well, many prayer go up for you.

It's a shame that Democrats and Republicans can't come together and work for the common good in ALL other issues as they have in this very controversial issue.

THESE SO CALLED CONSERVATIVES ARE NOTHING MORE THAN IN NAME ONLY THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. GAY MARRIAGE WILL PUSH THIS NATION INTO CIVIL WAR. CIVIL UNIONS ARE THE WAY TO GO NOT GAY MARRIAGE!

Love is love it shouldn't matter if your lover has the same sex organ as you or not. Maybe once gay marriage is fully accepted those republicans that are closet queers will come out and stop lying to themselves and everyone else

Unfortunately it will be an uphill battle in religious theocracies like america and other third world countries. It is a non issue in the civilised world.

Hate will always exist in the world, i do not support gay marriage because i believe marriage is a religious sanction that government should not be involved in. That said, the government needs to change their terminology and have it all a civil union under the eyes of the law and allow people to call it what ever and have what ever religious ceremony they want.

Why special rights for Gays? Where is the commercials standing up for the rights of Men having ten wives? If you open pandora's box, you must allow everyone their right to marry. Our families are so broken, this is just one more nail in the coffin of our nation.

The Republicans will drop the same-sex marriage issue like a hot potato very soon.
I wonder how long it will take for gay people to forgive the Republican Party. There are plenty of gay people who besides the gay rights issue would be Republicans but they vote Democrat because the Republican candidates are anti-gay.
I can imagine in the next election lots of Republican candidates coming out in favor of gay marriage and even emphasizing it so gay conservative voters don't mistakenly think they are anti-gay. This will work better in elections with new candidates.

Where's Neo? This is gonna make him very sad. I'm sad too because I never thought I'd see the day when I agreed with Darth Cheney on any substantive issue.

Neo's probably too beside himself to comment. It's going to be very difficult and it's going to break his heart to call Cheney a "RINO!"

@Keyjo I know I had a very hard time admitting I agreed with Cheney. They say that acceptance is the first step.
