    Another smoke and mirrors BS act. Why should any group need specific protection above others against violence? What about a budget? What about the deficit. While the liberals are patting themselves on the back here our nation goes down the tubes. How about enforcing laws to protect EVERYONE against violence and stop pretending you're actually accomplishing anything in D.C.?

    @AlexMIA Well from a moderate's perspective the Dems are cutting their own throats. Most moderates support basic social issues but they are tired of the Dem claiming "great victories for America" on meaningless social issue laws that won't be enforced anymore than the prior ones were. We want someone to step up to the plate and give us a plan out of this actual 20% unemployment, the deficit and the budget that never exists today. We don't like the right's protection of the rich and we don't like senior bearing the brunt of all the right's "solutions". You don't have to agree with me but that is how poll after poll shows the majority of America feels. The right has offered no solutions to the jobless and deficit that we accept and the left does nothing but crow about social issues. We're sick of it. Our only course of action under these circumstances is to go back and forth between the parties hoping one will actually do something. OR we can vote third party. The Libertarians got over a million votes last time. The dems need to stop the BS over meaningless social issues like this bill is and start offering up something on fiscal or else they'll lose the white house next time.

    I've come to realize that mandatory penalties for *anything* are a bad idea; that is one reason we have millions of people in jail now. I'd much rather be judged by a jury of my peers, or, you know, a judge, rather than a one-size-fits-all rule.

    I agree with you about mandatory minimums laws... it ties the hands of judges are juries alike... But I am not sure there are mandatory minimums in the VAWA... can you please cite some, if you know?

    I'm all for laws against violence toward anyone.....{thought I find it hilarious that progressive liberals don't mention the violence against the unborn through abortion}.....however why is it that they had to single out certain groups?

    This will be used as a vote getter for the next democratic hopeful to get the women votes. It was just a paper drill to make women feel good. Nothing will change-violence will still happen and be treated the same way.

    Why are special laws needed for certain groups in America? We have special laws for minorities, women, gays, etc... If you are a heterosexual white male in America you're just sh** out of luck.

    I see my liberal friends are rejoicing over yet more useless D.C. posturing. What happened to equality? Why are women and gays and illegal women more important than seniors who are the most prone to be preyed upon? Why not enforce the laws we have for EVERYONE to feel safe in America? Why do we constantly have to single out certain "groups" for additional protection? We don't. But we don't enforce the laws on the books now and this will be no exception. It's just blowing smoke.

    So are people to believe that these people have all this time been singled out and not protected under the rule of law? Ridiculous! More diversion from a seedy congress. More "grouping" of people in categories, more divide and pit each group against each other while the politicians rape America, instead of promoting unity and patriotism. No wonder the country is going down in flames, everyone is buying into this "us and them" mentality, instead of "one nation".

    Mimi57 et al: This is the money that funds services for victims of domestic violence, etc. -- MALE and female victims. This is what funds your domestic violence shelters, crisis centers, etc. -- programs that keep people alive and help them get safely away from those maniacs hurting and torturing them.

    Already have laws on the books to cover this. If the laws were in forced and the courts punish the ass clowns who get off on beating up women the proper way. Jail time max years every time it might Chang things. Also need to look at the women who keep going back to the same wossie who keeps abusing them. Put these women in jail. Maybe this will break the cycle.

We're building schools, raising awareness, funding free clinics and shelters, and putting pressure on governments. What have you done to better the lives of your fellow men lately?

    @Denizen_Kate - Good for you , is it out of your own pockets or another of those socialist fed 'Non-Profits ' paid for by the taxpayers ? Haven't heard of any women's group vocally & publicly speaking out on 'Sharia Law '? If so I applaud you - if not why doesn't the liberal mad stream media show this great effort. Behind the scenes activism with 'certain' administrative fees taken out means nothing but a free paycheck at our expense .
