As Jeff Bauman waited for his girlfriend to cross the finish line at the Boston Marathon, a man looked right at him and dropped a bag at his feet.
Minutes later, the bag exploded. Bauman lost both legs below the knee in Monday's bombings that killed three and injured more than 170.
Soon afterward, Bauman, the man from the iconic photo being rushed to a hospital in a wheelchair with a cowboy-hat wearing hero at his side, came to the aid of law enforcement officers, Bloomberg reports
"He woke up under so much drugs, asked for a paper and pen and wrote, - bag, saw the guy, looked right at me,'" his brother, Chris Bauman told Bloomberg.
From the intensive care unit, Bauman provided a description of the man he saw, his brother said. The information helped guide investigators as they scanned hours of video of the attack.
