What a disgusting, indefensible betrayal of American values. This is America, we speak English here. You don't like it, go HOME. We should not have to cater to invaders and speak their language. They come here, they need to assimilate to us. I'm tired of Democrats. Words can't even describe it.

We continue to cater to these species and give up our own moral rights to have English spoken in ALL public places and meetings. If these people refuse English get them the hell out of my homeland. No excuse for Spanish, or any other language being used in State or Federal business. Talk about milksops,we must be at the top of any ladder there ever was! No balls no guts and o more glory. All shot to hell by foreigners who suck us dry and must not want to be here or they would learn our language.

Dude, species? Tell me that was a misuse of a word. Otherwise...Hitler much? Totally on board with the main thrust, and in many countries we would certainly be expected to learn the accepted language(s), but we don't dare adopt one of our own, lest we offend people.

speaking english is a 'moral' right?

you do realise, don't you, that spanish has been a legal second language in the u.s. for over 25 years, right?

maybe it's time that you grow up and lose some of your over bloated ego.

@Real4WheelDrv Sorry, I was trying to think of a word other than normal human. If I move to Germany I WILL learn German. They come here take jobs, employers hire them for positions in the public eye just to stir up Americans born here because English is their second language. If they want to be a part of my society they WILL learn English. In my own country I do not intend to now or ever speak a foreign tongue.

@dances-weebles In America, the USA, we speak and converse in English. Even first generation citizens learn our language, how else would they pass the citizenship test? My EGO may be bloated, I certainly hope so, because I know from where I came(Leeds England 1683), and (Louderback, Germany 1705). Why and and how Spanish became a second language I neither know or care.

@BravoJuliet Just a guy who ran company after company into the ground, moved on to run the state of Texas into the ground, and then got the opportunity to prove he could run the entire country into the ground... and prove it he did. You'd remember him... you probably voted for him...

Unless you deliver your speech in all of the hundred-and-some different languages spoken by the people of the United States, you are a racist piece of crap.

    Senator Kaine,

I grew up in an America where we were told in the third grade that anyone could grow up to be President. We believed it. I believed it until my early twenties when I realized I was not Presidential material. Life wasn't always as easy as it is today. I picked Strawberries right along with the Mexican illegals. Picked apples right along with the Mexican Illegals. Loaded Rice Ships for a third the pay of the Union guys who watched me work. Drafted at a time when young men had no choice but to serve the interests of the rich for profits by war.

Through years of minimum wage jobs, under the table jobs, dead end jobs I never once collected a single dollar in public assistance. Not one single food stamp. Never on disability. never even filed for unemployment. Never out of work for more than two weeks because we worked at something regardless. That was the American way.

Today a full 25 % of illegals in California have found their way onto the welfare rolls. Says the Conservative San Diego Union and the Liberal L.A. Times. Worse 33% of legal California Latinos are on public assistance. And now you insult the citizens of a struggling nation, that can't produce jobs for our own, a nation in regression, a country searching for hope and you give us this? You tell the illegals come on down. Get in here. And don't worry about the language. We'll speak yours.

You Sir are an affront to the United States Of America.

I think if they renounce their American citizenship and gave speeches in the Latino country of their choice would be more appropriate. How do you think Mexico would react to a legislator giving a speech in English allowing full property rights to gringos?

If immigration reform is to really work the new citizen candidates should be fluent in English and be ready to denounce their citizenship to their fatherland. If not, we become like Babel.

I am so ashamed. I live in Virginia and Tim Kane is speaking in Spanish. If you come to America you should learn and speak English. It really upsets me when you have to "push 1 for English and 2 for Spanish". I wonder if you use the phone in Mexico you have to "Push 1 for Spanish and 2 for English"?

I wonder if he knows that English has been the official language in his state since 1981. Actually more than half the states are officially english speaking. Most notably California.

This Senator should be banned from the senate for life. If you cannot speak english on the Senate Floor, leave and don't return. We need to make English this countries Official Language by legislative action and signature of the President then a vote by the Citizens, which then makes it an amendment to the Constitution.

What was his point? In the mid 19th century there were large numbers of non-English speaking immigrants arriving in the US As time passed, most learned at least some English but were dependent upon their clergy for advice, translations of official documents and sometimes tutoring in English. Initially church records were written in the language of the immigrant generation or Latin. Within twenty or thirty years, when both the clergy and parishioners were American born, records were kept and continue to be kept in English. The American colonies were not populated completely by English speaking populations. There were Palatine Germans, Moravians, Famish, French Huguenots, Swiss, Swedish and Dutch communities as well. Since the colonies were part of the British Empire, it was more or less accepted that English would be used in official communications. Other languages were spoken and continue to be but denying English as the primary means of communication is ludicrous. English has been the standard language in this country since its inception. Those who emigrated from non- English speaking countries learned enough to survive here. Their children attended English-speaking public schools. English proficiency was part of being an American. The fact that the English translation of Kane's speech appears in the Congressional Record supports my view. If he is looking for a Spanish speaking venue, he should go back to his captive audience in Honduran schools.
