@bsking not too soft not too hard...since the leading cause of death is obesity followed by motor vehicles, what's going to be banned before guns?

And I stayed in a holiday inn express to get my dr's license.

Heart disease and diabetes is preventable...by pushing away from the freaking table and getting off your ass!! So, do we ban McDonalds? Make daily exercise a requirement by law? Oh, no, we could never do that!! Alcohol related traffic accidents are preventable...by telling people not to drink and drive. Oh, but wait a minute, we already do that, don't we? See where I'm going here?? The gun legislation will not work!!!

And yet, there are those who WOULD ban McDonald's and come into your home and define your daily habits if they could. I say let em, but they're gonna cook my meals and clean my apartment, and I won't pay a dime because I didn't ASK them to be there. In addition, they will also pay my grocery bill so I CAN eat fresh, organic food every SINGLE day.

"Newtown" has become cliche at this point. To keep referencing it over and over and over just makes it less relevant for discussion.

Most have brain damage in a specific area of the brain, due to head injuries. It causes violent or impulse control problems. A few have schizophrenia.

I dont know that medicating is the answer since most of the shooters have been on medications already.
Go to the fda website and look up the side effects of these drugs. It is very telling. When the side effects start surfacing, the doctors tend to prescribe additional medication which have the same side effecta, or simply increase the dosage of the offending drug.

Most physicians here in Elizabethtown have big homes with alot of security, and some live in gated communities with heavy police patrols. They also work in hospitals that have security so they feel safe. They are no better than the politicians because they have protection. Living in rural America or in less protected areas of a city is the REAL WORLD of crime. Some doctors make a living from gunshot wounds, stabbings, beatings, etc, so why would they all be for gun control. This doctor doesn't speak for all physicians, and if he paid attention to the polls Americans do not want gun control.

@Canoochee Yes and notice how they blame it on surrounding states stating that people buy weapons there. The people who go out of the city to buy weapons do it out of the fear. Criminals know people are defenseless and are very happy to take advantage of the situation. There are gun laws already on the books, however our liberal justice system and the ACLU gives criminals more rights than the victims. If there is any law needed for guns it is a three month time period for a trial and execution for the taking of any life with a gun of any type. The idiot major from the Army is still alive and drawing a paycheck! He should have been executed a long time ago on national television.

    @culinary

I've lived in my neighborhood for 21 years. No one's ever bothered me. When I first moved there is was all white. Now, demographics have changed and it's becoming mostly black. Again, no one's ever bothered me. I've never had my home broken into. I've never been accosted on the street. While I have guns, I've never felt the need to keep them locked and loaded and sitting next to me at all times.

I know that everyone is vulnerable to crime, but I don't believe a gun is the answer. Lucky me, the very time someone breaks in I'll be in the kitchen and the gun will be in the nightstand drawer. No help there. But I have a whole drawer full of very sharp knives.

It is always interesting to get the "facts" from someone with extreme tunnel vision who is also wearing blinders. CT has among the strictest gun control laws in the country. The result is the criminals have guns, few regular citizens do. Many sheep are at the mercy of the wolves. The more guns in the hands of regular citizens the safer we all are.

I wonder what happened with that Newtown dad who was against gun control. The media prob hog tied him and threw him in the trunk of their car.

I have often noticed that doctors allow that "Phd" to inflate their egos to such a degree as to erroneously make them believe they are experts at everything they wish to discuss.

    Greg,

While not outright lying, your presentation of the statistics is easily characterized as being less than honest and forthcoming. For shame.

There are, on average, 12,000 murders by firearm in the US annually. Of those, the overwhelming majority are committed both BY and AGAINST 16-24 year old black males involved in drug trafficking and/or gangs. Both perpetrator and victim in most cases are prohibited by law from possessing firearms or ammunition at the time of the murder, because either a) they are disqualified due to a prior conviction or b) they are underage. They typically commit their murders with stolen firearms, most often choosing S&W .38 or .357 revolvers, or Jennings or Lorcin 9mm or .380 autos.

While accounting for the majority of murders with guns in America, they are hardly the face of the typical "gun violence" victim plastered across gun control advertisements. Why? I don't know, but my guess is that it is easier to sell the average ignorant American on sympathy for innocent white school children gunned down by an evil psychopath, though such instances are rare, than the far more common convicted felon/drug dealer/gang member killed over a drug/turf dispute.

NO WAY DO WE NEED MORE GUN CONTROL! Look at Chicago. Chicago has the toughest gun laws in the land yet has the HIGHEST violent crime rate most of which is done with guns. What we need is MORE MORALITY in society up north. Thank God we already have it in the South and that is why shootings are rare here. The north needs to embrace The Lord God Almighty and put prayer back in schools. AMEN!

Look's like Senator JoBama from West Virginia is trying to make a name for himself. Enjoy the ride Joe you have pissed alot of your constituents off and will be voted out come next election!!!! Any Gun Control legislation is nothing more than words on paper and will not solve gun violence. The only way the Obama administration will solve the so called gun problem is by taking gun's away from everyone, and that my friends is next on his agenda.

I will happen. It's not a question of if..it's a question of when. I don't know if the Obama will be the one to do it but its going to happen.

"105,000 gun related injuries or deaths in 2010"

Now explain what the proposed gun control measures would do to reduce this.

You didn't know?? He has a "Dr" in front of his name. Like those Ct doctors, seeing a few gunshot wounds makes them experts on firearms, criminology, and freedom.

Interesting outlook. On the one hand you decry the deaths of the innocent, and on the other hand you sing the praises of killing not only the innocent ,but the helpless as well. So a "captive" audience for your brand of immoral killing is OK with you. Like shooting fish in a barrel eh? Loads of fun for you baby killing bastards. Grow up and take some personal responsibility for where your unload your own, uh, gun.

You are making the mistake that these individuals are insane. Most have had head injuries during their lives. Injury to the Frontal Lobe area can cause violence and impulse control issues.
  • #46
    !
@songbird, And if they have "violence and impulse control issues" they need to be removed from public as to not endanger anyone.

And please post what information you can find that shows these mass murderers suffered some type of head injury. Most have been on some type of psychotropic drug prior to going on their murderous rampage.
  • #68
    !
@Armed_Veteran I haven't looked into all the mass murderers. Holmes is mentally ill. But check out the studies on brain damage and violence. Also, a huge percent more than I realized, are in prison as well. The reason we have so much problem with violence is due to mental health. We need to address mental health and brain damage issues. This new gun control legislation won't address that need that I know of. It's something well worth studying.

    @songbird

I absolutely agree with you. I'll put another card on the table as to why there is so much violence. This nation has raised one, maybe two generations now of kids who were raised in households where lessons of compassion, empathy, or how to feel for others were never taught. These kids are the All-About-Me generations and they don't give a flying f*%& about anyone else but themselves.

There has been a rise over the years of child abuse, as well as animal abuse. Generally, these acts are committed by people who have no sense of empathy, meaning they can't feel what it would be like to be the person (or animal) they're abusing. The only feelings they possess are for themselves.

Is this a mental illness? In some cases, perhaps, but I blame it on parents who have instilled in these kids a sense of caring for someone other than themselves and their own wants.

@songbird, YOU made the claim that "Most have had head injuries during their lives". So where did this statement come from if you haven't done the research??? Or are you just making it up as you go along???

Newtown and Boston... its all a big push toward gun control. Haven't you noticed how the media is covering all the shootings now? Its not that there are more shootings people, its that the media is covering them all now... Im surprised they havent covered little Johnny and his BB Gun shooting a poor helpless bird. That will be next... oh wait.. that will probably be covered in the next Gay Monkey Scout troupe meeting.
