@marine1 There is nothing at all wrong with Kutcher's speech, although he's a dubious role model. Having said that, I wonder if they realize what his position is on some other issues they like to claim as sacred? Kutcher is a hollywood liberal.
The GOP do not have a monopoly on the idea that working hard to get ahead in life is the key to success. They just pretend they do.

@fraps Not the best role model. Kutcher got a burglary rap for breaking into his high school. Later he dropped out of college to pursue a modeling career after he was "discovered", which is sorta like winning the lottery.

@frigginhell His views on other issues are moot relating to hard work.

With the youth culture looking for the easy way out, this should be promoted more often than not. Many kids getting out college expect to land the corner office job and huge salary from day one.

Kutcher is telling them that you have to start at the bottom and work up. Not only does this make you a better person, but it's the most realistic view. I know of a guy who thinks his degree is worth at least $50,000 per year but won't belittle himself by working a low paying retail job in the meantime to get by with. That is ridiculous,

How can Palin make any commit on hard work integrity when she is the poster child for "when the going gets tough, quit!"?
  • #49
    !
@Roco Oh come on, you and DARSB both know that she quit because of all the frivolous law suits filed by one group that took all her time and money to fight. She could either do the work of governor OR fight the law suits - all of which have been thrown out, but which cost 10's of thousands of dollars the state would have had to pay. She was even sued over wearing a certain brand of ski jacket or winter jacket that sported the logo of the company who made it, for promoting that company. I guess Izod shirts are out, North Fact jackets are out, any sneaker with the nike swish or the name of the company is out, all cars are out. Yet she was sued, had to spend time and money fighting it and it was finally thrown out of court. I believe I have been all over this with you before, pointing out just how silly your comment is.

Yeah, yeah, I know, it's a great "Sound Bite" and an easy to remember and spell "Talking Point", but it's factually more involved than you and your fellow progressives and late night talk show hosts like to pretend. Or, maybe youall just can't get it, having never had real jobs that required your complete attention.

@Tralee I just love how so many Republicans love to call someone progressives because they disagree with some dribble spouted out by some Republicans. I am not a Republican nor Democrat nor Libertarian. I just call them like I see them, be whatever party affiliation associated with them.

@Roco If you are going to call them like you see them, then take the time to SEE them correctly and not spout off the sound bites of the left. If you speak like a progressive, sorry, but you ARE a progressive. You know, walk like a duck, talk like a duck.........

I guess being a model, an actor, a teen idol, and a sex toy is now considered hard work.

@ Camelbak Only to children who aren't raised well by parents that think schools are a day care which teach children from the ground up. Not to mention lavishing them with new clothes, ipods, and the newest sneakers for getting a D- in pre-algebra. "Shame on the teacher for failing my little baby!"

@alexpinca - true. Filling out EBT, welfare and other government paperwork can be pretty hard work too. (TIC)

@DerivePI - Conservatives having been trying to promote the idea that fascists like hardwork and everyone else just leaches off the system. That is only true in the twisted minds of the rabid right.
  • #25
    !
@alexpinca - we conservatives don't consider liberals as fascist and we certainly don't think of you as liking hardwork.

It's not really about "liking" hardwork but more about how the reward for hard work is distributed. Where conservatives believe that the reward for hardwork should be owned by the person who performs it, liberals are busy stealing other people's labor to reward those who don't work hard.

@DerivePI ---- Well I don’t speak for liberals, but I do consider the rabid right as fascists. And by the way I don’t buy Limbaugh’s definition of “fascist”…if you do, that’s your problem.

One thing I learned early on in the world of work, is that people more often do what they like…like and do go hand in hand…I would have thought you understood that. It is amazing to me how prepared the rabid right is to tell liberals what they believe…the idea that liberals don’t believe that the hardworking shouldn’t enjoy the fruits of their labor is another lie promoted by the far right. We just don’t belief you should disregard society in the process, its not just me, me, me.“liberals are busy stealing other people's labor to reward those who don't work hard.” A RABID RIGHT LIE.

Hard work, integrity and humility. It would be a hard sell to find anything wrong with these. Maybe he should give this speech in Washington DC. and every state house in the land.

It's just a really good speech from a popular guy who can make a difference. Can we just leave it at that instead of having political parties vying to claim it as their own?
  • #30
    !
@NormalFlora So the Dem's aren't going to try and claim this one? I seldom hear Dem's speak about the benefits of working hard.

But, what would anyone in Hollywood or D.C. know about hard work?

    Is there hope for Hollywood?

Well no, there isn't. However, kudos to Kutcher. Good and inspirational words to a generation that desperately needs to hear them.

@Neo_NtheMatrix It's a shame his show is trashy, prurient, and filthy. I certainly would not want a teen I care about watching it.

Good speech. But Kids will still probably not want to find real jobs that will benefit society though. And he should be getting praise from the left too. But People already know that they're not that outspoken about hard work and think anyone is entitled to entitlement programs. So not much point.

@Denizen_Kate LOL! i find it funny with more pressing matters at hand the right even has time to comment on something as minuscule as the teen choice awards.

@Denizen_Kate not the left, because I'm sometimes the left. LOL. I mean the left in journalism and congress. The ones who aren't actually doing anything for people.

It's why we should abolish the minimum wage. Working for any wage is better than being unemployed and watching illegals come take your jobs instead.

Great speech coming from a multi millionaire that makes more money than the police officers that risk their lives for ours daily, or the firemen or the teachers that deal with incorrigible children with no home training, or paramedics that save lives daily. Great speech coming from a Hollywood boy toy who's day of hard work is filled with looking good on the camera. Give me break

Thanks for making me feeling young as I am near 35 myself. I guess I am not old yet. Kushter is respectable, I just wish he said no to 2&1/2 men which is the stupid disrespectful show with toilet humor

Yes, but he definitely doesn't need Palin on his coattails. She is just looking for all ways to finagle her way into politics. Would someone please tell her she is done!! I wish Ashton well and for the first time realized he had something on his shoulders besides a pimple!

Why do Conservatives believe that speech was THEIR speech? Why do they believe that these ideas are THEIR ideas, CARING and THOUGHTFULLNESS certainly in't their ideas and HARDWORK isn't THEIR idea.

I did not watch, however, what "hard work" has Ashton Kutcher ever done? I know yes 2.5 men is 30 minutes long and it takes about a week to shoot but come on.......... This is ridiculous when an "actor" that makes millions says he knows the value of "hard work". LOL

Sounds like you're envious to me. Hard work can be addressed on so many different levels. The amount of money doesn't change the idea of hard work.
