Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) called Obama "a personal friend of mine" but nonetheless said the president is "getting perilously close" to meeting the standard for impeachment, the Tulsa World reports.
The only criteria for impeaching a president, per the US constitution, are "treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors." Coburn cited Obama's "lawlessness" as a reason to impeach, but he also cited "incompetence," suggesting that Obama's degree of incompetency might rise "to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors."
Coburn's words are surprising because he's not a conservative firebrand like Ted Cruz. He's one of the senators who oppose shutting down government to defund Obamacare, pointing out that it's not going to work and is instead a way for the GOP to lose the House.
