This man has thwarted the Constitution andthe law for the last 4+ years. Why would he care about what Congress says? He has proven that they are irrelavent.

I'll tell you why he cares what Congress thinks, because he needs someone other than himself to blame when the proverbial s*** hits the fan, and it will. there's a story on drugde right now of these so called freedom fighters in Syria... the very ones that John McCain loves us so much... brutally executing prisoners of war.. after reciting some religious curse on their captives they shoot them in the back of the head.. these are the people that Obama and McCain and Graham want to help. al Qaeda. our new allies.

You claim is floppy. You are simply trying to sell a political view others don't share. Did you complain about Genada & Lebanon when RR was POTUS.
  • #124

@Frosty45 Lebanon, no, because military base was attacked.

Grenada was a waste of time, but I was too young to complain about it, though I was fully aware.

@RedFloppyShoes Are you saying you want to return to the days of isolationists when we waited till a World War before waking up?
  • #127

@Frosty45 not at all. Pick your battles, don't jump into every skirmish and try to be the hero. Have a plan to enter and exit...not nation-build. And always remember, the enemy of my enemy is not my friend.

This is 0bama we're talking about here. Sadly the Constitution is mere toilet paper to him. The last 4+ years are stark indication that 0bama doesn't care about the will of the American People.

@Niku Yep, sadly and that just goes to show how uninformed (uninformed, not party-line) many prefer to be. I can gladly say I never voted for 0bama, or any incumbent in CONgress for that matter.

@NTMD8OR I have always been a firm believer in the NRA Ticket. I wish more Americans such as you and I would follow suit.

Exactly, the author of the piece has been living in a bubble: Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Ect., ect. Yes, the congress is required to declare war, but since world war two they haven't done so, and congress has failed each time to uphold the constitution by cutting off the funds. So there, you have it.

    @PoliticalSpice

Yes, we call them military incursions or actions, not wars... Iraq and Afghanistan weren't / aren't wars either.. There was no declaration of war.
  • #110
    !
@LEC yea, but the declarations are no longer required now, bush repealed the constitution via the patriot, homeland security and real ID acts. They just haven't told us yet, and most americans are so ignorant they won't figure it out. Evidence? Boston bombing: cops put everyone under martial law, and did home by home unwarranted searches. When it was over what happened? Lawsuits? Congressional hearings? Nope. A bunch of idiots in the streets partying and chanting "u.s.a., u.s.a."

The leader of this county have failed. They are lagging behind. The people are ready for fascism, and they are just not getting to it fast enough. What a spectacle this is. People demanding less freedom while mouthing phrases like liberty...

Don't forget Katrina as an experiment to field private security, aka Blackwater to control a disaster area....

And though Obama may have had the best of intentions, all that power... how does a normal person resist?

If the constitution was to be upheld and followed of coarse not.But remember obama will once again make his own choice on that.

I'm sure President Executive Order will find a way around the will of the people, I.E. congress, like he always does. It just sucks that this nation is being drawn into possibly helping al-quida because he doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut (when the teleprompter is broken).

Obama cares not for the Constitution other than destroying it. So if Congress says no, as everyone expects they will, then he will just do it.

I really hope it goes down like that. Maybe then they will impeach his dumb ass.

This author's *opinion* is about as far off the mark as his understanding of law and the Constitution. Yes, the POTUS can act without COTUS. We are not declaring war.

That said, I do not support this action against Syria.

Gotta love how the fool is saying minutes ago he never drew a red line but it was others in his speech in Switzerland.
  • #38

Yet when we look at footage of that original speech last year, he CLEARLY drew the red line himself. He's gotten quite adept at changing stories or blaming someone else. POS that he is.

@2kingsdaughter I do not want this military action. However, the president said in that speech that if they were used, his calculus would change. He didn't say he would fire missiles at him if chemical weapons were used. I am tired of hearing of international norms and we very recently signed 1997 treaty for chemical use followed by 2003 Bush Syrian accountability act. The majority of the rebels are not Al Qaeda and what Ted Cruz said was stupid. I am with both parties saying that we can't be the only country to enforce norms. I would support if a huge coalition put up money and resources. McCain needs to shut up. My jaw dropped when Dempsey said we knew as a country what to do with post regime moderate government. We have no business in that region. Assad controls a city and 10% of population. I feel for those children and angry at their rebel fathers bringing them into war zone. That is not normal. Any President should have said what Obama said. It was international and congressional law he was referring to

If you want to post your questions incorrectly expect to get answers to the question you asked instead of to the question you meant to ask. There is a difference between 'can a' and 'may a'. Can means does he have the actual ability to fight. May means does he have permission to fight. So, in this situation there is no question he has the ability to start the campaign. There is also little question that he has said he has the ability to act even if congress votes him down. Obama's impeachment is so overdue that it is not funny. Too bad that the Democrats in Congress are more loyal to their party then to their country. As far as I am concerned they are traitors.

That's the problem, he doesn't have a degree in con law; although I think that's blatantly obvious to anyone who read the article. He's got a bachelors in poli sci from UMass and dropped out of Georgetown's Continuing Studies certificate program. Also...Yale Fellow, lol?

Here's the situation: Obama needs Congressional approval to attack Syria. Fine.

I hope the majority in Congress would vote a big "Hell NO!" and tell Obama "Don't even THINK about it!"

Enough of this shit. Let those crazed people on both sides do US a favor and annihilate each other.

Whether congress says yes or no, BO still wins. If they say yes, he gets his way and creates diversion from recent scandals. If they say no, he can either attack anyway and say that repubs lack ability to do the best thing for the country or not attack and blame the repubs as incompetent/immoral. Either way he wins and gets the diversion.

At that point who cares who's in Congress because the precedence will already be set for the president to do whatever they want with or without congressional approval.
Congress well become completely irreverent. we will bee in a complete dictatorship.

The War Powers Resolution would allow him to use military force without Congressional approval as long as he notified Congress within 48 hours. Moreover the troops would only be authorized to remain for 60 days without authorization from Congress. In the past, Presidents in smaller military actions would just act and not ask for authorization from Congress. It can be effectively argued that by funding such efforts since Congress holds the purse, Congress has always ratified such actions. I think it is interesting here however since he is asking FIRST before acting...so I am unsure that he could really act AFTER Congress would say "no". However, my prediction is that they will vote "yes."

LEGALLY? No. But since when has that stopped this socialist would be dictator from doing exactly what he wants? he has ignored the Constitution from day one and has no plans to change now.
