    DC has also got more armed law enforcement per capita than anywhere in the country. There is no better test case in the country for the efficacy of gun control laws.

    @Food4thoughts the worst crime is where the strictest gun control laws are. How hard is it to grasp that gun control simply doesn't work?

    It's always a stupid knee jerk reaction but it does get the press and congressional attention. Piers Morgan needs to go back to England and stay out of our business.

    "Piers Morgan needs to go back to England and stay out of our business"

    Didn't we deport that guy already? Anyway, I talked to two immigrants from England last night, and they said that one of the reasons they are here is the rampant crime in England since they tightened up their gun control. Not many criminals in England have guns now, it is true, but they have knives, and old ladies with knives are no match for them. If we ever do enact gun confiscation, the State should at least make it mandatory for old ladies to carry guns. Hey, that would not be the silliest law the liberal elite has passed.

    I thought he said he was leaving if the gun laws didn't pass before? Smh he's in the wrong country anyways and nobody with half a brain watches him or cares what he thinks.

    I agree. He should go back to England where they completely banned firearms and the death rate by stabbings and blunt force trauma rose something like 400%

    This is really disgusting. DC is already one of the most restrictive in terms of gun ownership, so restrictive that it probably violates the Constitution. Imagine that. No, sit there for a second and let this marinate. The capital of the country, the place charged with upholding the Constitution, could be the most restrictive and even in violation of that very document.

    So what do gun control advocates do, not even 24 hours after a horrific attack on our most proud and brave servicemen? They propose even more restrictions.

    Damn, I just can't even explain how angry this makes me. America took one giant step towards going over the cliff 5 years ago, and has not looked back ever since. Totally gross and disgusting.

    So sad...

    When you have weak inept people who refuse to admit that society is the problem, not the gun, this type of response will always be first on their list because they are not willing to deal with the truth. Bring back the vakues of the 40's and 50' and you will see this all go away. You will also see the weak and inept grow strong and prosper.

    @tomincali

    Once upon a time, not all that long ago, you could buy about any gun at the local hardware store and many schools had shooting ranges.

    In those days the murder rate was lower and there were not a lot of mass murders.

    What changed? Light sentencing of criminals was one thing. There has also been a proliferation of gun laws including the (sarcasm) ever so successful (/sarcasm) "Gun Free Zone".

    It would appear the anti-gun crowd has created the very problem they now complain about.

    Yes, DC has one of the strongest gun control laws in the country. This guy was from Texas. Texas has one of the most lenient laws in the country. He probably bought the guns at a gun show in Texas....no questions asked. You got the money, honey....we got the gun.

    Washington city gov't already has strict gun control. That's why so many died: they weren't allowed to defend themselves.
    Criminals know that. Same as on military bases like here and Fort Hood. Gun control doesn't work.

    @Denizen_Kate if my understanding is correct they don't allow carry on base and acsess is so resticted that even with trained military the general run of the mill passers bye can't defend against an armed blood predator.
  • #279
    !
    @Denizen_Kate No they do not. For permanent residents who have firearms, they are to turn them in to the local base armory where they will be stored. At least that's how it was when I was in. A lot of my fellow Marines who were single living in the barracks and owned their own firearms kept theirs at their home of record or stored them in a safe in a storage unit outside compound.

    DC already has as strict of gun laws as anywhere. Plus, if a person is expecting to die, do you really think they give a fck what the law is?
  • #199

    There needs to be a much bigger push to publicize the opposite side of the coin - people getting murdered because they were unable to protect themselves. Find every case where this happens and turn them all viral. It seems only the senseless things get mass attention anymore. Everything else just falls by the wayside after a week or so.

    Look at that picture. That officer has an assault rifle!!!! See that's what the left wants. Only people in uniforms who follow the leader to have guns.

    Hell we won't let our servicemen have sidearms on base even though they are active duty military personnel and we give them explosives, planes, tanks, etc.

    Yet not even a week ago Obama was giving fully automatic weapons to al queda terrorists. Idiocy.

    How about the gun control advocates explain why we have dead people in a zone with more gun control than anywhere else on the face of the planet.

    This is proof, they are right about that. It is proof that gun control laws do not work!!! They only harm innocent people.

    Now open your damn eyes and see how the laws did nothing. This is because laws work only with law abiding people. Criminals do not care.

    Uh...actually DC gun control laws DO NOT apply to the navy yard. Those grounds are governed by millitary rules. Just like the base in Fort Hood Texas it is NOT a "Gun Free Zone."
  • #206
    !
    @Waynestew
    Yes it is. It is gun control in its most extreme form. No guns allowed on that property unless you are a police officer at that installation or military police.

    Just like the VA hospitals. The VA police can carry but no one else can.
  • #319
    !
    @DrNickels True, however those are MILITARY RULES not civilian. Any military installation, no matter where, is not bound by local laws. Point being to suggest that DC local laws apply is simply untrue. And to try to draw a narrative from THAT misleading untruth makes your argument disingenuous.
  • #320
    !
    @Waynestew
    No they are federal laws. Not military laws.

    And it's a perfect argument. The federal laws barring firearms from federal property are the most extreme version of firearms laws. I'm surprised more shootings don't take place on federal property since they provide a victim rich environment.
  • #327
    !
    @DrNickels So what you are trying to tell me is: an army base full af people WITH GUNS and an ARMORY (you know where guns are kept) ban the weapons that they have stored? LMAO!

    I was an army brat, grew up on bases. I saw MANY people with weapons. Again your arguments are presented in a disingenuous way.

    You know whats better than taking away guns? Making it harder for the mentally ill and stupid to get them.
    Because some redneck with an AR-15 in Arkansas isn't going to cause a mass shooting, but a psychologically damaged teen in Virginia with a handgun.... well. It should be a little harder to get guns.

    Wait... you mean to tell me that this fellow was terminated from a job without giving up his access and security card as a civilian contractor?? Plus may have had access to an armory at that site??
    If that's so, it flies in the face of any separation policy I've known in the last 20 years where you gave up access credentials up front. Especially, in areas requiring Security Clearance of even the lowest classification.
