Republicans are in danger of losing the sole branch of government where they hold sway - the House of Representatives - in the 2014 midterms, warns a Wall Street Journal editorial.
Their House majority is the only leverage the GOP has while Democrats hold the Senate and the White House.
Why is the WSJ so concerned? It's because Republicans are embarked on what looks like a Kamikaze mission to force a government shutdown in hopes of defunding Obamacare. Voters may blame Republicans for the shutdown, "given the media's liberal sympathies and because the repeal-or-bust crowd provoked the confrontation."
Some Republicans think they are sure to hold the House in 2014 no matter what happens because of gerrymandering, but even those levees won't hold if there's a wave of revulsion against the GOP. Marginal seats still matter for controlling Congress. The kamikazes could end up ensuring the return of all-Democratic rule.
