While Sens. John McCain and Harry Reid may not agree on much, they both share the firm belief that the tea party is dangerous to America.
The two Senate elders from opposite sides of the aisle have deemed Ted Cruz and his extremist tea party cohorts as "wacko birds" and "anarchists".
Unfortunately, the senators are correct - even if the truth hurts.
The tea party is holding the U.S. economy hostage via their self-imposed government shutdown which is hurting the tepid economic recovery and threatening fiscal catastrophe (via a potential failure to raise the U.S. debt limit).
But that's not all.
Aiding And Abetting the Enemy
Tea party radical right-wing ideologues are also aiding and abetting anti-American terrorist groups like al Qaeda and its global affiliates - either inadvertently or by design.
The tea party "suicide caucus" - as it's been called - is weakening U.S. national security by eviscerating our intelligence infrastructure via the government shutdown. Meanwhile, anti-American terrorists continue to plot against us.
Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday that the shutdown "seriously damages our ability to protect the safety and security of this nation and its citizens. We will have to shuffle people in and out depending on what we believe the concern of the day is...So each day that goes by, the jeopardy increases."
Clapper said the shutdown "is not just a Beltway issue. It affects our capability to support the military, diplomacy and our policy makers. From my standpoint, it's extremely damaging."
He continued: "The danger here is that this will accumulate over time. The damage will be insidious. I've been in the intelligence business for about 50 years. I've never seen anything like this."
General Keith Alexander, director of the National Security Agency (NSA), added that the shutdown "has impacted us very hard" and "has had a huge impact on morale."
Gen. Alexander told the Senate hearing that 70% of intelligence community civilian employees are furloughed, including over 960 with Ph.D.s, 4,000 computer scientists and 1,000 mathematicians, according to media reports.
In short, radical right wing extremists in the tea party are willing accomplices to those who would harm America. The tea party is hindering the fight against global terrorism and protection of the homeland.
As Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, recently stated on the Senate floor, "Our shutdown is the biggest gift we could possibly give our enemies."
Thus it should be obvious by now that tea party "anarchists" are intent on not only destroying the U.S. government and plunging the economy into the fiscal abyss, but they are also actively jeopardizing the very safety and security of our nation.
That's why referring to the tea party as "anarchists" may be too kind.
Shame on Ted Cruz and his mindless minions.
