A&E found out there are more Christians than gays. His comments were not made on the air or on his show, only an honest reply to a question in the print media. Simple math, plus of course the threat of boycotts.

@SAS86 I think it's all good that he got suspended and he got the point. Also all good that they let him come back. I don't think it had anything to do with Christianity, he said something nasty, he got a slap on the wrist and life goes on.

Really, the dude managed to offend a ton of people in that interview. From the "blacks didn't care about civil rights" to the "Muslims, Japanese and Nazis are all bad because they don't have Jesus". All he needed to do was insult women, and he would have offended everyone who's not part of the GOP base.

He only told the truth of what the Bible says and gave an opinion from the majority of men's perspective on vaginal vs. male anal sex.

You use the term "butt-hurt" a lot. Why is that? At first I thought it was a new slang fad, but no one else says that. Is there some underlying meaning?

This is fine. He should not have been suspended in the first place.

Had he been in approval of same sex marriage or their lifestyle, should A & E have removed him because he offended Christians or Muslims? No.

Tolerance is a 2 way street Get used to it.

@Medicinebow quoting the tenets of ones faith in regards to homosexuality is noble and deserving of tolerance. Taking those tenets into the ballot box and denying your fellow countryman a privilege you enjoy is discriminatory and in no way deserving of tolerance.

@PauldenZangpo "Taking those tenets into the ballot box and denying your fellow countryman a privilege you enjoy is discriminatory and in no way deserving of tolerance."

Because the star of this show has that capability?

I've never watched the show and likely never will. I see stores crammed with products carrying these guys to sell the products. I only know about them through the news websites and what I see in stores.

I simply see an amazing amount of intolerance EVERYWHERE, everyday in this country.

There are many facets of life where people in different parts of this country enjoy or are denied privileges and rights.

I've always believed in equal application of the law, even if I don't agree with certain laws.

Great. Who cares? Like any sane person already acknowledged- A&E can handle this situation however they want. Christians can think they won- even though there was never a battle. Dollar bills for the win.

@Hoosierdaddy yup. It's all about the Benjamin's. Retail outlets say 'Happy Holidays' because they're waging a war on Christmas; they do it because they know a good portion of their customers may not observe Christmas as a religious holiday.

I don't follow...how was the Liberals and the gays call to boycott Chik Fil-A vs the Conservative call to boycott A&E hypocrisy?
  • #57
    !
@BravoJuliet because one side said the other was wrong for doing so and that it was horrible people would be so immature. Flip back in the stories on this site about Chik Fil A and see for yourself the outrage, and now that they are doing it, it's completely logical and justified. Get it now?
Personally I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, that most Americans couldn't care less about the entire gay/Christian ongoing saga, and most of us wish they'd all just shut up.

    @Fishbone345

I can agree with the "just shut up already" part.

I guess boycotts whether they succeed or not is just one more freedom of expression...and I'm not one to step on someones right to do that.

Chik Fil-A, despite the dumb name, does make better chicken sandwiches than any other fast food joints. I have not boycotted them, but they are not in my area. On the other hand, Robertson's opinion,as well as the Bible's, was unoriginal and rather hateful and in no way superior. But I do not watch Duck Dynasty, as I have no cable hook up.

Hey there, gays! I guess A&E isn't standing behind you quite so much anymore.

    ***smirk***

BRILLIANT publicity stunt. Get the pillow biters knickers in a twist, get headlines from coast to coast, and have advertising for the show that money can't buy.

    Love it!

Excuse me but I have to finally disagree with you to a point. Just about every gay was offended, however a large amount of gays stated that he had every right to say what he did, and that the suspension was wrong.
  • #291

@MadAmerican No excuse needed, friend. I think that gays were used in this instance. A&E's 'suspension' of this fellow had no substance, and was merely to give the impression that something was being done. A&E had no intention of dropping this program, nor did it care whatsoever what gays thought of the program. A&E's action just added fuel to the fire and fed the news cycle on the story.

It made the show a point of conversation over the Christmas holiday and gave promotion unlike anything money can buy.

Yeah, Phil is back. Your lives are now complete and for us non-fans we don't have to hear any more crap about this stupid show. I said, it all along, it was just a publicity stunt! They never had to worry about offending black or gays, because neither group ever watched the show.

@happyhedon Actually, as someone who has watched the show more than a couple of times (and enjoyed it) and has also watched Phil in interviews prior to this incident, I think it's clear he won't be there for long. I've been under the impression from day 1 that he said most of these things to cause some controversy and get kicked off. Or if not purposefully, was more than happy to be kicked off for something he believes in and can use it as a sort of victory (i disagree with what he said but am not surprised) Anyone who watches this show as much as those clamoring to his defense on here claim they do would realize he's not a happy camper with the reality television show. He's the least shown character and he's already expressed many times that he doesn't like doing the show.

@PaulBartomioli If Obama watches the show, I never heard about it...but, if he did say it...I'm sure he only said he watched it for political reasons...anyhow, obviously there would be a few black and gays that watch the show ...but it certainly isn't their target demographics
btw...Obama is as much white as he is black

Interest is at an all time now...of course they would. But as a man of god I would hope that Phil has seen how spreading vile vitriol is counterintuitive to his Christian beliefs. Live and learn.

Jesus washed the feet of prostitutes.
  • #10

Yes Jesus associated with prostitutes but this is where liberal churches get it wrong. He still did not approve of prostitution.
  • #14

On the contrary...I hope Phil continues to tell the truth! Jesus told the woman caught in the act of adultery to go and sin no more! He didn't praise her actions, he simply told her to stop it. Phil only quoted scripture! And hey, just remember, Phil didn't win this, neither did A&E. God won...all the time...every time.

And...I've always wondered, how did those men "catch" that woman? Perchance, were they someplace they shouldn't have been in the first place? No charge for that one, it's on the house.:)

What tickles me is the silly rant that some idiot posted on youtube, the one that had the pictures of the family before they decided to be a redneck reality show.

No family ever looked more like the country club set than them.

Called it. I said that he'd be back by the end of this week. I wish I were a betting man.

Anyway, this just proves how much pull this show actually has on the network. What other show has made A&E this popular? Dog the Bounty Hunter? LOL!!!!!

Seriously, Duck Dynasty is their golden goose. There isn't another program on their station that is as popular and they know if they piss them off enough, they'll leave (which they may do anyway) the network and easily have another contract w/ another network by the next day. A&E may own the rights to Duck Dynasty, but not Duck Commander- which was a smart move on the Robertson's part by not allowing A&E to have any said rights on their product...they just could get another name easily.

I am glad that this occurred. It just proves how PC is a load of crap.

It's been happening for awhile. I used to like to watch the History channel before it became the stupid reality show channel but apparently that is what the low information masses like judging from how many people like DD.

And those without sin may cast the first stone. Don't judge lest thee be judged. Funny how those parts you don't have to follow...
